Wednesday Spot Plays for lucrative Pick 6 at Keeneland

Keeneland features a $106k Pick 6 carryover on Wednesday with full fields in five of the six legs (Races 3-8). Here are three horses I’m looking forward to playing in the sequence as well as my A-B-C grid for the Pick 6:

Race 4: #1 Sage’s Epiphany (6-1) turned in a solid effort over the Keeneland turf last spring and exits a nice prep over the Indiana Grand turf in which she just missed by a half-length, passing numerous horses in the final furlongs. Her BRIS Late Pace ratings are first-rate and the sophomore filly receives a key jockey switch to Jose Ortiz. Look for her to receive an ideal stalking trip from the rail before offering her best for Ben Colebrook, who is enjoying a fine meet (12-1-4-1) and always seems to have his horses ready for turf spots at Keeneland.

Race 5: Similar to Sage’s Epiphany, the 6-1 morning line price may not hold for #12 Witnessadream, who exits a troubled fourth-place debut effort at Churchill in which he was beaten only 2 ¼ lengths. The 2-year-old colt never appeared comfortable last time after rough start and is in good hands with Mike Maker, who is poised to run away with another Keeneland training title with six wins already. There appears to be a few well-meant firsters present but I will give the edge to Witnessadream, who is capable of a much better showing the second-time out.

Race 8: With plenty of pace entered, #8 Lucy’s Revenge (5-1) figures to receive the perfect set-up. The 5-year-old mare drops to the $7,500 level and exits an encouraging effort where she passed horses in the stretch behind an impressive next-out winner at Keeneland and the mare’s third-place showing against $25k claimers at Keeneland last fall is clearly good enough to win here. Lucy’s Revenge loves the trip (5-2-1-2 at 1 1/16 miles) and can rally for the win in the finale.
