Which ‘Glimpse will we see in Nassau?

May 26th, 2017

Trainer Mark Casse will send out champion CATCH A GLIMPSE in Saturday’s Nassau Stakes (Can-G2) at Woodbine and I am curious to see which filly will show up. Four-year-old daughter of City Zip had a sublime juvenile campaign in which she earned titles of Horse of the Year, Champion Turf Female and Champion Two-Year-Old filly in Canada after a convincing score in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1).

The chestnut carried her impressive form into her sophomore campaign, capped by a brave tally in the Belmont Invitational Oaks (G1) over a fine cast, but she simply has not been the same since.

Catch a Glimpse is winless in five straight outings and the way she readily gave way last time after leading through sensible splits in the Jenny Wiley (G1) at Keeneland leads to serious concern. This was a queen that began who won her first eight turf races in succession. Her current losing skein includes three out-of-the-money finishes.

The Kentucky-bred has been facing some of the best of her generation without question and the Natalma could be the class relief she needs. Though, anything but a big run in this affair tells me that she is past her prime and the breeding shed might be a more logical option for the classy lass.

I never like to see a champion go out on a sour note, so I am rooting for Catch a Glimpse to return to her old ways and take command of a field that lacks any other star power. I have some doubts that we will ever see the same sensational performer who simply looked unbeatable not too long ago, but since jockey Florent Geroux has kept the faith in coming to ride the champion in the Nassau, so will I. Let’s catch one more ‘Glimpse of the filly she once was!
