Who to bet on opening day at Keeneland

October 2nd, 2015

Another Keeneland meeting is upon us, and opening day of the 20-day Breeders' Cup stand is a challenging 10-race card featuring two win and you're in races for the World Championships on October 30-31.

The Phoenix Stakes is a Grade 3 in notation only, as it features last year's champion sprint male and Breeders' Cup Sprint winner Work All Week facing Grade 1 winner Runhappy plus ten others in a race that will no doubt play a big role in the makeup of the TwinSpires Breeders' Cup Sprint at this track and distance.

I have a lot of respect for the aforementioned Runhappy and Work All Week but think Breeders' Cup might be the time for that duo, and maybe one of these other ten can get the best of that talented duo in this spot at a very generous price. With that in mind, I made Fast Anna, Alsvid, and A.P. Indian "A" picks and will absolutely need one of them in the top three to do well in this race.

The Alcibiadies, a prep for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies, is a similar race. I do think Dothraki Queen is the most likely winner, but from a wagering standpoint, the filly I'm most interested in is Marquee Miss, who picks up Florent Geroux for her second career start off a three-length debut victory in stakes company.

Complete ABC grid for all ten races is below. I'll play Pick 3s using all my "A" picks and roll doubles using the As and Bs.
