Wiggle It Jiggleit tops Monday Invitational
While harness racing fans have already gotten accustomed to seeing the best older Free-For-All pacers compete in the first two rounds of the George Morton Levy Memorial Series at Yonkers Raceway, the marquee name on the list of 50 Levy moms will actually make his seasonal debut at Dover Downs on Monday night.
Wiggle It Jiggleit, the reigning harness horse of the year, will make his 4YO debut Monday evening in a $60,000 Invitational slated as the 10th race on a stellar card.
Wiggle It Jiggleit won 20 of 25 starts and banked over $2 million last year en route to being named champion three-year-old colt pacer, pacer of the year and horse of her year. Along the way he captured numerous major stakes, including the Meadowlands Pace and Little Brown Jug.
Wiggle It Jiggleit prepped for his seasonal debut by winning a local qualifier by 32 lengths in 1:50.1, two weeks after he actually settled for third in his first qualifier. Wiggle It Jiggleit is hardly going to be handed the winner's share on Monday simply by showing up and he is slated to head to Yonkers for the Levy leg on Saturday.
Looking to spoil Wiggle It Jiggleit's seasonal debut are two aged pacers who drew to his immediate outside and have each made several starts over the oval.
Rockeyed Optimist arrives riding a four-race win streak, including a 1:49.4 score last week in the Open at Dover. This five-year-old Rocknroll Hanover gelding trained by Steve Elliott is razor sharp now and arguably the best aged pacer in the land not nominated to the Levy series.
Just to his outside is Bettor's Edge, a durable and talented Ron Burke trainer who has finished second to Rockeyed Optimist in both of his starts this year, one at The Meadowlands and the latest at Dover. Bettor's Edge has banked well over $1.5 million in his career and boasts numerous stakes scores, including the 2014 Breeders Crown Open Pace.
Four other talented pacers are also looking to foil the party. One Through Ten has the rail, Bushwacker has won five of 10 starts but may have peaked in January, Dapper Dude has faced many of the best older pacers in the land for several years, while First Class Horse seeks his first win of the campaign.
Several races earlier on the card another solid group of aged pacers will clash in the competitive $36,000 Open. Atta Boy Dan has danced with some tough customers already this season, as has Yonkers invader Jeneral Patton who has won three straight including the Open Handicap. Vapour N won the Open at Rosecroft Raceway in his most recent start and arrived in the U.S. from 'down under' along with a stellar contingent group that includes Levy participants Bit Of A Legend N, Bettor Rock On N and Te Kawau N.
Monday's Dover card begins with a pair of Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund eliminations for three-year-old trotters and then includes numerous quality overnight events for conditioned pacers and claiming pacers leading up to the Invitational which should go postward around 7:30 and end roughly 1:48 later.
