X Y Jet impresses in Mr. Prospector

Gelfenstein Farm’s X Y Jet registered his first stakes victory in dominant fashion Saturday, rolling to a 9 ¼-length decision in the $100,000 Mr. Prospector (G3) at Gulfstream Park. Emisael Jaramillo was up on Jorge Navarro-trained gelding.
The lone 3-year-old among seven sprinters, X Y Jet left the starting gate as the 2-1 second choice and reached the quarter-mile mark in :21.92 with a 1 ½-length advantage. He drew off entering the far turn, extending his lead to 7 ½ lengths after a half-mile in :44.29, and continued to smoke the competition through the stretch, completing 6-furlongs in 1:08.56.
X Y Jet raced six times as a juvenile, including a runner-up finish in the Pasco at Tampa Bay Downs, and opened his sophomore season with a second in the Hutcheson (G3) at Gulfstream last January. But the Florida-bred was sidelined after retreating to last among six runners in the Swale Stakes (G2) in early March.
The gray son of Kantharos returned from a 6 ½-month freshening with an allowance tally at Monmouth in mid-September and entered the Mr. Prospector off a 4 ½-length allowance triumph at Gulfstream Park on November 11, netting a career-best 100 BRIS Speed rating in the latter.
X Y Jet has now earned $214,683 from a 12-4-5-1 record.
Grande Shores rallied from last for second at 17-1, three-quarters of a length better than C. Zee in third. Speechify came next under the wire and was followed by 7-5 favorite Stallwalkin’ Dude, Singanothersong and Weekend Hideaway.
Bred by Didier Plasencia, X Y Jet is out of the Lost Soldier mare Soldiersingsblues and count the stakes-placed Woman Soldier as a half-sister. He sold for $56,000 as a yearling at the 2013 OBS August sale.
