Yonkers hosts final Levy prelims
Saturday night Yonkers Raceway hosted three divisions of the fifth and final round of the George Morton Levy Memorial series for Free-For-All pacers.
In the first of three Levy splits, Lettucerockthem A (Brian Sears) quarter moved to command, set honest fractions throughout and outlasted the late inside bid of PH Supercam (Jason Bartlett) to win by a neck in 1:51.
A six-year-old Art Major gelding trained by Rene Allard, Lettucerockthem A has finished first once, second once and third once in three Levy legs after bypassing the first two rounds. He did not earn enough points to secure a spot in the $100,000 consolation next Saturday, but the Yonkers race office might find a spot for him.
PH Supercam settled for second on Saturday night and posted one win and a pair of second-place efforts in the series. But one year after dominating the prelims and two years after winning the final, PH Supercam earned enough points to make the $550,000 final for a third straight year.
One race later in the second Levy split, Mach It So (Tim Tetrick) benefited from a pocket trip behind the aging Foiled Again (Yannick Gingras) to the top of the stretch, angled to the passing lane and outkicked a gritty Texican N and Te Kawau N to score in 1:51.3.
A six-year-old Mach Three gelding trained by Jeff Bamond, Mach Three won three legs of the series and earned a berth in next week's lucrative final for a third straight year. It was his 28th win from 70 career starts and he could join stablemate PH Supercam in the final next weekend.
Texican N and Te Kawau N both raced well throughout the series, but Foiled Again failed to win any prelim in four tries. Defending Levy final hero Domethatagain won one leg of the series but looks destined for the consolation this year.
Then in the third and final preliminary of the night and the series, Levy star Bit Of A Legend N (Jordan Stratton) and reigning horse of the year Wiggle It Jiggleit (Montrell Teague) staged an epic battle through the lane and literally proved inseparable at the wire.
Wiggle It Jiggleit, the 3-4 favorite and Bit Of A Legend N, the 4-5 second choice, dueled to a dead-heat in 1:51.2. Bit Of A Legend N posted five series leg scores for trainer Peter Tritton, while Wiggle It Jiggleit notched his third win in four starts this year for trainer George Teague, jr.

Wiggle It Jiggleit bypassed the first two legs and was second to All Bets Off in the third round before posting victories in the last two rounds. Technically, Wiggle It Jiggleit did not earn enough points to reach the final.
