Stakes Preview - $50,000 He's My Man Classic Semi-Finals at Palm Beach Kennel Club Sunday January 13, 2013
At Palm Beach Kennel Club on Sunday afternoon, Races 12 and 14 will feature the 16 greyhounds that made it through the 3 qualifying rounds of this series. Only one, #5 Riverview Stevie, is undefeated. The red female out of Kiowa Sweet Trey and CV's Mama Mia has just had a 6 win streak and 6 finishes under 30 seconds. She's also the winner of the 2011 Dubuque King and Queen Stakes and was 3rd in the Palm Beach St Patrick's Day Invitational. Owned by Norman Rader, this Rader Kennel entry will face two of her kennel mates, #3 RK's Conk Gonk and #2 O Ya Pure Country.
RK's Conk Gonk won this series last year and O Ya Pure Country has won two rounds out of three in this year's series. Rounding out the field for the 12th race are #1 Gable High, #4 Jawa Bruiser, #6 Maliceindapalace, #7 Bills Bulbs and #8 San Tan Big Bang.
In race 14, #5 O Ya Billy Bob, another Rader Kennel speedster, will be trying to get back to the form that won the recent Dick Andrews Futurity at PBKC. However, he'll have competition in the likes of #1 Atoscacita Henri, second to Riverview Stevie last time out . #6 CT Heartbreaker will certainly be in the hunt also, as will #2 O Ya Chance and #7 U Too Beltre. #3 Bring It On Beth and #8 Harley Jackie will be doing their best to bring off an upset in this semi-final event.
An interesting note on this stakes series is that 3 of the semi-finalists are out of Rhythmless, a sire who is starting to really make his presence known with his offspring. The smart handicapper will be watching the Grade M races for litters out of this sire.

Orange Park/St Johns Tonight marks the return of one of my favorite greyhounds, SNJ Black Porter. Winner of the 2012 Orange Park Derby, this 80 pound master of hounds is fresh and back to his A game, if his schooling races are any indication. I love route races anyway, but I'll be watching this one with an eye to the start of the Orange Park Derby stakes, which is coming up in less than a week!
Tucson According to the National Greyhound Association, Tucson Greyhound Park has lifted its ban on females. The ban had been in effect since the City of Tucson enacted a law banning steroid use in females. Steroids are used to prevent the female greyhounds going into heat.
Instead, females who show signs of going into heat will be segregated in a separate kennel and not allowed to race until they've gone out of heat.
Tucson is also reducing its programs from six to four per week. Live racing days are now Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
