Molson Pace Preview Friday May 31st at Western Fair Raceway
1-Foiled Again (7-5) Yannick Gingras/Ron Burke 2-Aracache Hanover (6-1) Douglas McNair/Gregg McNair 3-State Treasurer (4-1) Randall Waples/Dr Ian Moore 4-Versado (7-1) Scott Zeron/Nicholas Surick 5-Rock On Moe (12-1) Brad Forward/Patrick Shepherd 6-Keystone Velocity (8-1) Trevor Henry/Frank Kamine 7-A Rocknroll Dance (10-1) John Campbell/James Mullinix 8-Betterthancheddar (8-5) George Brennan/Casie Coleman
The big question in my mind is whether Betterthancheddar is ready to roll off that qualifier where he won by over 9 lengths. A Rocknrolldance came back from a similarly impressive qualifier and didn't fire in the Maturity and Dan Patch. The 8 post isn't the best one to make a comeback from, but he does like this track, so I'll put him on top.
Foiled Again is pure class, even if he is looking a little tired lately. In case he suddenly wakes up and remembers how good he is, I'll play him on top and underneath in exotics also.
Rock On Moe has good early speed and will probably be the front runner. Whether he can hold that place is debatable. He hasn't been running at stakes level, but his trainer can move his horses up in class pretty well. He has the home court advantage with 7 out of 10 wins at Western Fair. I'm going to include him in exotics.
State Treasurer ran a very good race from a tough post last time out and I think he may do a lot better from the 3 post, so he'll be in my exacta and trifecta.
A Rocknrolldance has had two tough races and was hung out for most of the last one. I'd like him a lot better if he was in a better post position, but you can't count him out.
Arache Hanover might be the sleeper in this one. The word is that he choked last time out when he had to be throttled back sharply. If that's the case, he may run a much better race this time and can close as well as leave, which is a dangerous combination.
My picks are the 1/8-3-5.
