How to bet the Soaring Softly Stakes

May 10th, 2024

An overflow cast of 14 sophomore fillies has been entered for the $175,000 Soaring Softly S. (G3) at Aqueduct on Sunday. The six-furlong dash on the outer lawn looks to be an attractive betting affair and I am using a trio of runners in the heat.

Soaring Softly Wagers

  • 50-cent trifecta 6,7,9 with 6,7,9 with all ($24)
  • 20-cent superfecta 9 with 6,7 with all with all ($22.40)

#9 Pipsy intrigues me most in her U. S. debut for William Walden. The three-year-old daughter of Kodiac brought a huge sum at Tattersalls in 2023 and gave the impression that she might be worth the investment after a trio of lifetime outings to date. Following a second on debut at Cork, the Irish-bred rolled home in each of her final two tries as a juvenile and has been posting stateside works since February. Flavien Prat riding adds to her appeal.

Rusty Arnold’s #6 Kodiac Wintergreen, also by Kodiac, displayed a lot of potential on the lawn last season and kicked off her sophomore season with a third in the Limestone S. on the main surface at Keeneland. The bay ran two good ones in the Empire State as a two-year-old, led by a maiden score at Saratoga, and I feel that she will be ready for a big move forward in her second off the bench. The late runner will rally from well off of the strong early tempo with Luis Saez in the silks.

#7 Amidst Waves is an obvious inclusion for conditioner George Weaver. The two-time stakes winner has improved her Brisnet Speed figure with each lifetime run and should be ready with seven morning drills in advance of her seasonal debut. Last seen finishing four lengths back versus the boys in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1), the Midshipman filly will stalk the pace from the start under John Velazquez.

Multiple other fillies in the field are logical for the exotics, and since these types of races often produce big prices in the lower rungs of the verticals, I’ll use the ‘all’ button underneath with the additional well-matched contenders.
