OVERTOOK
$1 million yearling purchase graduated two back prior to a smart second-place finish in the Withers S. (G3). Bay son of Curlin is improving and seems to love a route of ground, and the colt comes in with a sharp half-mile drill in tow, as well. John Velazquez will look to rally from off the pace, and Overtook has to be considered in his second graded try here.
NOVA RAGS
Chestnut son of Union Rags stayed on to be a clear fourth in the Florida Derby (G1) in his most recent performance. A seven-furlong stakes winner, Bill Mott trainee also has a Grade 3-placing going two turns, and the three-year-old appears to be moving forward in preparation of his second run off the short layoff. The homebred comes in with a pair of bullet drills in succession, and he will have Junior Alvarado in the stirrups once again. The colt will be the one to catch as the likely pacesetter.
PROMISE KEEPER
The second from the Pletcher shedrow has looked the part in two of his last three tries, and he will make his second attempt at the graded level. The chestnut son of Constitution appears to have a high ceiling, and if he runs to his current form, the sophomore could evolve into a fine three-year-old in the second half of 2021. Luis Saez retains the mount, and a top-three finish is well within reach.
WOLFIE’S DYNAGHOST
Second timer from the Albertrani barn has appeal going forward following his smart debut tally at Aqueduct in November. The well-bred son of Ghostzapper exits a fine win against a deep field, defeating Grade 3 winner Weyburn among others, and he appears to have a bright future with expected progression. The bay colt faces a tall task in this spot, but he's eligible to make at least a minor impact off the layoff.
I AM THE LAW
Maiden from the Terranova barn has been close on both lifetime races to date and makes some sense in his black-type debut. The $125,000 son of Mshawish caught off surfaces times, and he stretches out for a barn that is heady when doing so, in general. The chestnut Kentucky-bred still would be a surprise, but he isn’t that far behind the top picks. Carmouche retains the ride.
RISK TAKING
Likely favorite didn't fire in the Wood Memorial S. (G2), but he's a fine fit in this field. Chad Brown pupil was a superb victor of the Withers two back at the distance, and the Klaravich colorbearer is certainly a candidate to rebound with his best in this spot. The well-bred bay will look to make a major impact in the stretch with Irad Ortiz Jr.
