Yonkers Offers Final 2016 Saturday Card
Virtually since the outset of the year with the George Morton Levy Memorial series, Yonkers Trot and Messenger Stakes, Yonkers Raceway has consistently offered the strongest Saturday night cards in harness racing.
But all good things must ostensibly come to an end and tomorrow night Yonkers Raceway will offer its final Saturday night program of 2016, with nearly a dozen overnight events perhaps giving savvy handicappers a chance to pad their bankrolls just in time for Christmas.
Saturdays second race is a non-winners of $10,000 last five starts class for pacers which also includes a pair of horses that fit in under the non-winners of $100,000 lifetime eligibility. Typically those horses are at a disadvantage for several reasons, but the pick here is one of the two horses that slips in under the AE tag.
Urban Renewal (Matt Kakaley) finished third last week in this class last week in his Yonkers debut following three straight wins at Plain Ridge. Urban Renewal raced very well in defeat, attempting to rally from mid pack into a rapid back half carved out by favored In The Huddle. Urban Renewal gets the nod over talented National Debt, a Maryland-bred with ample ability making his return from a three-month layoff.

Then one race later in the Winners Over class for aged pacers, much of the focus will be on the ageless Foiled Again, a 12-year-old Dragon Again gelding who sports 91 Wins and a lofty, record bankroll of nearly $7.5 million from 272 starts. Foiled Again has the rail for this event and looms the favorite, although Roland N Rock (Jordan Stratton) and PH Supercam (Jason Bartlett) will both pose a serious threat to the old man.
Then one race later in the featured $45,000 Open Handicap for older pacers, The Real One (Pat Lachance) will seek redemption after finishing second as the 7-5 choice in this spot last week. Defending Open hero First Class Horse (Matt Kakaley) will seek to end the meet with his second straight score in the top class, while Mach It So (Jason Bartlett) looms a serious threat from post six after tiring to third last week in his first start since a dull outing in the inaugural $100,000 Potomac Pace at Rosecroft on Nov. 22 and has every right to regain his winning ways in the last Open Hcp of the season.
