Australia Racing Preview for 1/17/2014

This weekend racing sees us peering over two venues. Whilst we get the listed action at Flemington in Victoria, we just cannot ignore the 2YR olds lining up in the $250,000(AUS) at Royal Randwick up in Sydney, NSW. Who knows, the race may even give us some more contenders for the $1 Million Blue Diamond and the $3.5 Million Golden Slipper. So let’s take a look and see if we can find some winners.

FLEMINGTON RACING – AUS A

RACE 4 - CRAFTSMAN HANDICAP 1720M ($100,000 AUS)

Nice little race but happy to steer us in the direction of HE"S YOUR MAN who was backed off the map to beat Anlon at his Oz debut but he just didn’t measure up.  Amaethon was back in 3rd, and at the moment that some of the best form lines you will find! Step up to the 1720m an obvious tick. ERASET is ready to win; he has been knocking on the door and this where he does his best work! ROAD TRIPPIN' was set a fair task in Lord Stakes won well by OREGON SPIRIT, in that race DURNFORD was second, and pretty good.  This race is definitely a good test for PRINCE OF PENZANCE but I’ll bet he measures up!

SELECTIONS – HE’S YOUR MAN / ERASET / PRINCE OF PENZANCE

RACE 6 – KENSINGTON LISTED STAKES 1000M ($120,000)

I was impressed with the trial of POCKET ROCKETS in Adelaide, he is a perfect 2 from 2 here at 1000m, the Carlyon Stakes run was fantastic, and it clearly says he can win this with the weight of 54kg. FIRST COMMAND  as we all know flies fresh, he has won this race the last two years, so a hatrick is definitely a possibility, horses have a habit of repeating race wins! GENERAL TRUCE also reassumes, he too ran well in that Carlyon Stakes and is proven down the straight (always a bonus) my real concern here though is the gate 1 and on top of that, relative weights are against him? KAISER SUN will measure up here in my opinion so he needs to be included. DON'T GET EXCITED (back to 1000m??) and LOVEYAMADLY go in; they had no luck at their last outings respectively.

SELECTIONS – POCKET ROCKETS / FIRST COMMAND / GENERAL TRUCE

ROYAL RANDWICK – AUS B

RACE 4 - INGLIS CLASSIC 1200M ($250,000 AUS)

$250K on offer for the Inglis yearlings. 7 males, 6 fillies......and just 2 winners among them.  The assessment of this race is pretty much brutally honest and does not take any real genius! You have to pick out the unbeaten New Zealander VINNIE EAGLE.  He jumped like a gun last start and almost bullied his way over to lead and if we presume he can do something similar here from the outside stall then he will stay undefeated.  If he ends up outside BOOMWAA (WHO DOES HAS THE MOST RACE EXPERIENCE?) then no worries. He's the only one with a 1200m run, and it just happened to be a G3 won easily in decent time. I will throw in SMOKIN SNITZEL purely because he is in good hands and has shown speed in both trials.

SELECTIONS – VINNIE EAGLE / BOOMWA / SMOKIN SNITZEL
