Australia Racing Preview for 4/15/2014
by Grant Davies
Back to the Lakeside track for this edition of mid-week racing. Let’s take a quick look and see what we can find in the way of winners!
SANDOWN LAKESIDE – AUS A
RACE 2 - HAYMAN PLATE 2100m $35,000 (AUS)
A CHILLER can box seat. Not sure what C Williams does on TEAR GAS from her outside gate but have to respect the combination and give her a strong chance considering I truly believe she will win better races than this in her career. She was most impressive 2nd up at 1700m. From the box seat A CHILLER might be the danger, as she's in good form also. WIND BENDER had excuses last time so get anpther chance here. She carried 60kg two runs back in this grade and was very competitive. ST ISSEY had excuses last time. SACRED DREAM and SILK AND DAIMONDS have place hopes if things go their way.
SELECTIONS – TEAR GAS / WIND BENDER / A CHILLER
RACE 4 - ASCEND SALES TROPHIES HANDICAP 1500m $35,000 (AUS)
This is tough one I admit! CARILLO should get a good run on the speed. He stuck on well last time in a handy race with 59kg. He showed prior to that he can match it with the older horses so he can win this. RURAL HUNTER was given a far better ride last time to score. He can go on and measure up to better grade and this is a race he can definitely win. BEL SEAL is a brother to Oregon Spirit so based on that the increased trip should be in his favour for sure. There's no doubt LONROCKSTAR was better at Cranbourne but he's drawn awfully here which hurts him. BEL SEAL should box seat.
SELECTIONS – CARILLO / LONROCKSTAR / RURAL HUNTER
RACE 8 - LE PINE FUNERALS HANDICAP 1300m $35,000 (AUS)
Potential is there for good speed in this race and around half of these are 1st up. Keen that ALIYANA will run well fresh. Thought she trialled nicely enough to do so here. PYTHAGOREAN gets another go with an expected stronger tempo and better barrier, so this is a great chance. He might settle around midfield, but it's interesting he backs up quickly. In the UK he won 2nd up off an 8 day back up. WALES gets another go back to 1300m. Forgive his last run. Of the on pacers thought ONPICALO trialled well enough to respect. RED CORNER and KERTHOS next best.
SELECTIONS – WALES / ALIYANA / PYTHAGOREAN
