Weekday picks and plays for Thoroughbred racing.
Wednesday, Sept. 16
Presque Isle Downs, Race 1: $12,500 claiming (1 mile on Tapeta, 4:45 p.m. ET)
#7 Lady Madison (6-1) looks like a live longshot in this claimer for fillies and mares who have never won three races.
An Irish-bred daughter of talented turf sprinter No Nay Never, Lady Madison finished second for a $10,000 tag Sept. 3 at Arlington Park, where she set the pace in a 1-mile turf event and weakened slightly to finish second.
The 77 Brisnet Speed rating Lady Madison received fits well in Wednesday’s field, and the switch to Tapeta shouldn’t be an issue. She ran well over three different synthetic tracks in Europe prior to her arrival in the U.S.
Her trainer, Andrew McKeever, is also 1-for-1 at Presque Isle this meet. He saddled Lemon Popper (another veteran of the Arlington turf course) to upset a maiden special weight over the Tapeta.
I would like to thank Frank Irvin and Kevin Hoskins for there great support and patience with Lemon Popper great result at Presque Isle yesterday pic.twitter.com/H97iBYRQpw

Lemon Popper was ridden by Presque Isle’s leading jockey Pablo Morales, who has also been named to ride Lady Madison.
With her tactical speed and outside draw, Lady Madison figures to enjoy a clean trip, so let’s bet her to win and play her on top of #5 Hollee Peach (3-1) and #6 Violet Blue (7-2) in the exacta.
$20 to win on #7 Lady Madison
$5 exacta: 7 with 5,6 ($10)
Total: $30
Good luck!
