Breeders' Cup Saturday undercard picks

November 6th, 2020

Stakes racing starts bright and early Saturday at Keeneland. Let's make the most of this weekend of great betting opportunities by being ready to tackle the undercard, too!

Race 1: Perryville Stakes

#1 Nashville (4-5) stands out, and he has the speed to clear this short field.

Take this logical single and catch a price later. Key him on top in exotics, which could pay nicely, if Mitchell Murrill gets consistent longshot #5 Wild Wes up for a share underneath, alongside #6 Relentless Dancer or #4 Bango.

Race 2: Lafayette Stakes

This is the most likely place to catch a price on Saturday’s undercard, especially since #1 Engage drew the rail and has yet to prove he wants 7 furlongs.

The pace should be hot. #5 Edgemont Road and #3 Absolutely Aiden must send, and #6 Sleepy Eyes Todd will have to go.

For multi-race wagers, #9 Ebben (8-1) and #8 Strike That (6-1) are both extended one-turn horses who are getting good at the right time.

Ebben will drop from graded company and should benefit from the cutback to seven furlongs. Strike That ran his best race yet last time out, over this course and distance, and proved he could rally from off the pace.

#10 Mind Control (8-1) is a stone-cold, seven-furlong horse with back class. The morning line is fair but perhaps too good to be true. Watch the board.

Race 3: Fort Springs Stakes

With a pace collapse likely, #4 Wicked Whisper (5-1) is worth a win bet and is a strong "A" in multi-race wagers. She has found her best stride as a closing sprinter and should get another nice setup, like she did when she won the Miss Preakness (G3).

Others for exotics include #6 Fair Maiden, a price horse who handled dirt well last time out and will get Lasix for the first time; #10 Motivated Seller, who is unexposed but could work an outside tracking trip; and #7 Merneith, who hasn't run a bad race at one turn.
