A remarkably competitive field will contest Friday’s $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1) at Keeneland.
The race has drawn a full field of 14 plus one also-eligible entrant. Separating the contenders isn’t easy, but it’s likely trainer Aidan O’Brien—an eight-time winner of the Juvenile Turf—will be involved at the finish with one or more of his four entrants: #3 Florida Bay (20-1), #4 Haffner (8-1), #11 Man’s Best Friend (15-1), and #14 Great Barrier Reef (4-1).

- 50-cent Superfecta: 11,14 with 3,4,5,10 with 11,14 with 3,4,5,10 ($12)
- 50-cent Superfecta: 11,14 with 3,4,5,10 with 3,4,5,10 with 11,14 ($12)
Total: $36
All four of the O’Brien trainees have won at the group stakes level, and three have shown promise against Group 1 competition. Florida Bay finished third in the Vincent O’Brien National (G1), Haffner exits a win in the Royal Lodge (G2), Man’s Best Friend ran third in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere (G1), and Great Barrier Reef finished third in the Dewhurst (G1).
Their accomplishments are notable. Five of O’Brien’s eight Juvenile Turf winners had previously placed in a Group 1 race, and three had previously won a group stakes. O’Brien’s 2026 Juvenile Turf entrants stack up well against their predecessors in terms of accomplishments, and any one of them could factor for a top-four finish at Keeneland.
So why not play a superfecta and bet on all of them in some capacity?
Of the quartet, we prefer Man’s Best Friend and Great Barrier Reef. Man’s Best Friend has done well competing on good and good-to-firm turf in Europe, suggesting he’ll appreciate firm ground at Keeneland. Great Barrier Reef hasn’t missed the trifecta in three starts and is slated to be ridden by O’Brien’s top jockey, Ryan Moore.
We’ll build our superfecta tickets around Man’s Best Friend and Great Barrier Reef, counting on one to win and the other to finish in the top four. For the remaining slots, we’ll use Florida Bay and Haffner alongside Vincent O’Brien National winner #10 Folsom Blues (7-2) and Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile S. conqueror #5 How’s Al Today (3-1).
Folsom Blues has beaten Man’s Best Friend, Florida Bay, and Haffner in recent starts and conquered the Vincent O’Brien National by six lengths.
How’s Al Today is the morning-line favorite. In the Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile, he won by 4 1/2 lengths over a field containing next-out Street Sense (G3) winner Jas and next-out Bourbon (G2) hero #13 Agate (10-1).
Good luck!
