Celebrating a Big Winner in Last Week's Let 8 Ride As a New Game Begins

Today’s #Let8Ride is a classic puzzle of the most likely winner versus the best value. Thankfully, since it’s the first day of the weekly contest, we can play both.

But before we get into the virtues of #2 Crissy Field at 7-to-2 or #7 Lake Snow at 6-to-1, major props are due Teresa D. of Connecticuit, who turned a $24 initial investment (by betting three horses to win at $8 each last week) into $4,437: $2,937 on the four-race win parlay plus $1,500 in added #Let8Ride prizes.

After a chalky start on Thursday, Teresa was the only player to let $16 ride on Queen of Chicago at 25-to-1. She then turned that $424 into $890.40 and that $890 into $2,937 with the final two races both being won in gate-to-wire fashion to ease her nerves.

Well done, Teresa!

If an encore is to be achieved this week, then I would expect her (or anyone) to play both Crissy Field and Lake Snow here. The former tops the field on both Prime Power (following the scratch of Looking for a Date) and best last-out Speed Rating, but she is one of many speed horses in this race. The latter is the only starter who is not an “E” or “E/P” type in an eight-horse field, and she sports what Blood-Horse handicapper Frank Angst calls “the jockey angle”: Her jockey has the mount for the second time after riding her well the first time.
