His graded stakes winners are spanning the country this year with Duponte winning the $1,083,480 Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park as well as the $278,000 Harrah's Futurity at Louisiana Downs. He also bred Marfilous, a gray filly by Ivory James who is the fastest qualifier to the $271, 950 Firecracker Futurity (G2) at Delta Downs.
This Sunday, Cox may stamp another footprint on the $1.1 million Ed Burke Futurity (G1) at Los Alamitos as he bred fastest qualifier, Chazaq.
Followers of the Quarter Horse industry would hardly be surprised at the success this year of the noted Texas breeder. He has been honored by the AQHA as champion breeder and owner twice and is ranked third, behind Ed Allred and Vessels Stallion Farm on the AQHA all-time leading breeders. He leads the division this year with 88 wins and $1.9 million in purses.
Duponte, who is owned by Kristin Paredes, is a son of American Runaway out of the Ivory James mare Havanah Goodtime. The mare was owned by Cox and made just one career start, winning her debut on May 13, 2012 for trainer John Buchanan.
Duponte currently stands as the top money earning Quarter Horse in North America with $578,519 banked this year. Stallions on the 2,200 acre Cox Ranch near Weatherford include American Runaway, Brimmerton, Ivory James. Bigtime Favorite, Dominyun and Jumpn.
So, with one seven-figure futurity winner already in the books for 2016, can Cox add a second million dollar championship with Chazaq in Sunday's Ed Burke? Chazaq is by Corona Cartel and out of 2004 Ruidoso Futurity winner All About Ease. The talented gelding has already tested deep competition, running second in the $428,000 Kindergarten Futurity on May 15.

He is a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and has served as director and is a member of the Texas Quarter Horse Association. Cox was named Owner of the Year in 2004 by the American Quarter Horse Association and was inducted in 2008 into the Texas Horse Racing Hall of Fame.
