Dover and Rosecroft Offer Thursday Cards
With the Christmas and New Year's Day holidays rapidly approaching, standardbred racing fans will look to kick off the month of December on Thursday by cashing several tickets at a pair of five-eighths mile ovals in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
Thursday's Dover Downs card will cap the week for the Delaware five-eighths mile oval and the program now includes the best horses on the circuit. Initially the top pacers were on hand for the Monday cards, but with the open stakes schedule completed they have been relocated to Thursday.
Nearing the midway point of the Thursday card is a competitive non-winners of $12,001 last six starts class for older pacers in which over half the field could succeed. Intheblinkofaneye (Jonathan Roberts) arrives with 11 wins from 31 starts for trainer Tara Hynes and sports the fastest mark courtesy of a 1:49.2 score at the Meadowlands. But Golden Gun (Pat Berry), Extreme Machine N (Yannick Gingras), Singing Saint (Art Stafford, Jr.), Para Ray (Allan Davis) and People Are Crazy (Tim Tetrick) all merit respect in this spot.
Then two races later in an ultra-tough non-winners of $16,001 last six starts class for pacers, railbound Jet Airway (Corey Callahan) looms a contender for trainer Dylan Davis thanks to a solid 5-6-1 slate and 1:49.2 mark from 19 starts this year. But Special T Rocks (Jim Morand), Abelard Hanover (Victor Kirby), Moonwriter (David Miller), Captive Audience (Gingras), Cajon Lightning (Art Stafford, Jr.) and Starsky's Dream N (Tetrick) all loom serious contenders.

Then two races later in the $30,000 Open/Preferred Handicap for older pacers, Vapour N (Berry) will look to overcome his unlucky eight-hole draw against classy veterans Dancin Yankee (Callahan) and Bettor's Edge (Gingras) and rising local star Nike Franco N (Tetrick) who has won all three of his starts in the U.S. for trainer Jim King, Jr. Major Uptrend (Teague) and Ideal Cowboy (Kirby) will start from posts one and two as contenders in a race that should provide some added warmth to the conditions on Thursday.
Then one race later in the $18,000 4YO-under Open Handicap, sophomore star Next Success (Morand) will start from the rail for trainer Les Givens with a 10-2-2 slate and $167,000 bankroll aided by victories in the $100,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund final on Governor's Day at Harrington. Wakizashi Hanover (Tetrick), third in the inaugural $100,000 Potomac Pace at Rosecroft last week, will look to continue his return for King and seek to overcome his assigned eight hole slot, while Harrington Open star Arque Hanover (Callahan) will start from post five.
That same night at Rosecroft Raceway, Allabout That Race (Jared Moyer) will seek his second win in his last three starts for owner-trainer Merle LaFountaine in the fifth race, a non-winners of three races lifetime condition. Railbound Coming Out On Top (Russell Foster) will seek to end a four-race skid in which she has been well-backed, failing twice as the odds-on choice against similar foes.
Then one race later on the card, give a look at Bullitt Blue (Frank Milby) who raced well in a non-winners of $2500 last five starts class for pacers on the Potomac Pace undercard and was second to Cracker Pullet, who came back to finish second in a tougher class on Tuesday. Then two races later in the featured non-winners of $6000 last five starts class for pacing fillies and mares, give railbound Junkyard Treasure (Timmy Offutt) a chance to upset against the streaking DVC Kolor Me Crazy (Kim Vincent) and likely choice Cape Marj (Roger Plante, Jr.).
