Dover Downs Worth Watching Early and Often on Wednesday

February 15th, 2017

While Tuesday's card at Dover Downs was, fittingly, all about the ladies on Valentine's Day, the Wednesday focus is on trotters, both in the morning qualifiers and then later in the parimutuel program.

Wednesday morning's qualifiers will see a number of talented horses prep for their 2017 debuts. In the first qualifier, pacing mares Feelingmightygood and Purrfect Bags will look to tune up for the season, while one race later talented aged trotters Wind Of The North and Market Share will face off in a clash worthy of the Open Handicap, which is where both are likely headed. Then in the sixth Q, Nike Franco N, a mare who has already beaten the boys, makes her return for trainer Jim King, Jr. and one race later millionaire Wakizashi Hanover preps for his seasonal debut for King.
Then the feature on the Wednesday live racing card at Dover is the $30,000 Open for trotters. I Like My Boss, a former dominant sort here, has the rail and seeks his second win in seven starts this year, while I'm So Striking seeks her second tally in four tries. Tirade Hanover, who already boasts three wins in four starts this year for trainer Leigh Raymer, leaves from post three, just inside of Classic Belisima, who has won twice in three tries. Una Hanover and Il Mago are both seeking their first wins this year, but Frost Free Hanover and Tough Mac already arrive with two triumphs in four outings.

Speaking of Tuesday's card for pacing distaffers, Dismissal delivered a powerful effort in a non-winners of $100,001 lifetime class when she prevailed in 1:51.2 and looks to be a major player down the road. Enhance Your Mind promptly captured the $25,000 Open Handicap for pacing fillies and mares in 1:51.1.
