Early Thanksgiving Fare Served Wednesday at Zia Park

The day before Thanksgiving is filled with good racing fare as Zia Park offers a lucrative 11-race card with eight big stakes worth more than $1 million for American Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds.
The featured Quarter Horse stakes is $150,000 Zia Park Championship with reigning world champion Jrc Callas First defending his title. Bred in Texas, the son of Winners Award out of the Dirty Coup mare Calla Missy Jane is owned by Dana and Brian Stroud, who also trains the bay runner. The 5-year-year-old gelding, under regular rider, Damian Martinez, brings a three-race win streak into Wednesday's 440 yard stakes. He will face 11 rivals in the 2015 edition of the Zia Park Championship, including multiple stakes winners Mad About the Moon, Pure D Spit, Jesscuzican and Major Moonflash.
Thoroughbred stakes include the $200,000 Zia Park Derby and $300,000 Zia Park Oaks. Nationally prominent Thoroughbred jockeys Corey Lanerie, Florent Geroux, Edgar Prado and Martin Garcia will all travel to Hobbs, New Mexico, for the stakes-filled card.
