Greyhound Preview: Dubuque for 5/14/2014
by Gary Dura
It’s another week, so it’s another matinee to kick off the live racing schedule at Dubuque Greyhound Park.
Here are some selections:
Race 1: Maiden starts the day. O Ya Hawkeye (8) should be clear on the outside. I don’t like taking a 4 box dog in a maiden, but Pat C Yowser keeps grabbing my attention. He looks ready.
Daily double: 48/45
Race 2: Grade E. Not a very strong field in my opinion. WW’s Friendorfoe (4) and Superior Rally (5) look best. I am worried the mid-track runners will get in each other’s way. If they do, the 8, L’s Tuscan, should be able to hold on.
Trifecta: 45/458/14578
Race 3: A Maiden starts the dime pick 4. Fun For All (8) is showing improvement each race. I like RJ’s Ragusa (1) because of the inconsistent break next to her.
Pick 4: 18/468/57/248
Quinella: 8/147
Race 4: Grade D. Superior Kennel has quite the racers this year, and I’ll go with Superior Novelty in the 4. Her break should make the difference. WW’s Vows (6) loves the middle and will be a factor. If the mid-track selections worry you, Tempo Falco from the 8 should hit the board.
Superfecta: 46/468/4568/a
Race 5: Maiden. The closer, Sweet N Sassy (7) should be in good position to pick her spots. I’m worried about the 5, L’s Rocsi. Good dog, but those middle boxes in Maiden races are always a challenge.
Race 6: Grade B wraps up the pick 4. Giovanni Falcone (2) and Alkay Sweething (4) have the early speed to stay ahead of trouble. I would recommend adding the 8, Hilco Tru Value, for his closing ability and if there is trouble in the corner.
Trifecta: 24/248/245678
Race 7: Grade C. If you’re looking for a quinella wheel, this would be the race. Kells Whistler (4) should give good value. The Mardi Gras transplant hangs in there. However, keep an eye on the odds.
Quinella: 4/a
Race 10: Grade A. This is a tough race to start the pick 3. The biggest question: Will O Ya Cindra (3) get inside? If so, I like her chances. However, the closer, Superior Marine, is in the 1 box.
Pick 3: 13/34/128
Trifecta: 13/13/258 and 13/258/13
Race 11: Grade B. The grade dropper, Rodasta Man (4) gets the nod. He likes mid-track. The 3, JD Gregarious, will prove to be the competition.
Trifecta: 34/34/127 and 34/127/34
Race 12: Grade A. The Palm Beach import Pat C Dark Ciena (2) is figuring out Dubuque’s track. I like her chances. Superior Samba is new to Dubuque and put right into A, which says something. However, is she ready? I think the box will help a lot. Watch out for JD Affinity (1); I’d throw him in as he could pull the upset.
Trifecta: 28/128/12578
Superfecta: 28/128/1258/a
Race 14: Grade B. I like JD Happy Tears (6) to hit the board. Super C Riddick (4), from Mardi Gras, has taken to Dubuque quickly.
Trifecta: 46/146/4678
Race 15: Grade A. Stickers Drive (7) gets my nod to hit the quinella. She’s always near the top, and she should be fine with the field in this race.
Quinella: 7/a
