Greyhound Preview: Dubuque for 5/7/2014
by Gary Dura
The afternoon card is a tougher one this week. That usually means a chance of hitting some larger payoffs.
Race 1: Interesting Maiden race. No dog jumps out as a clear-cut favorite. I’ll go with a dog I believe won’t be a favorite. Pat C Lulu (5) has showed some break. I’ll add in the 7, XK Penelope Cruz. I’ll pass on Pat Say Jack (6) because of a lack of full-field racing.
Daily Double: 57/46
Race 2: The questions in the Grade A race: Is Superior Korbina short, or was it a one-race incident? Will WS Sprang Over get to the part of the track he likes? Again, based on the card, I’ll say yes and no and go with Pretty McKenna (4) and grade riser Pat C Uproar (6).
Race 3: A Maiden starts the dime pick 4. It’s a challenge. I’ll give MS Maddy (6) another try in this field. I think she can get out and hold on. Pat C Razzal S (4) has shown improvement and Boc’s Swoncert is in a good box (8).
Pick 4: 468/235/38(5)/38
Race 4: Leg 2 is a Grade C race. The 5, Ale Anne Murray, is where she likes to be. KC Set Em Up (3) had bad luck last time and Gonna Take Itall (2) still grabs my attention.
Quinella: 5/238
Race 5: It’s a Grade e third leg. It’s another tough one. Boc’s Vector is in the 5 and likes the middle. I like Superior Network’s chances out of the 8. The question to me if Baxter Can Fly (3) likes Dubuque’s surface, as he had trouble at Mardi Gras. I would add him, just in case.
Quinella: 8/1357
Race 6: A tough pick 4 wraps up with a Grade D race. Boc’s Barneyfife (3), the Maiden Debut winner, looks to be the class of the field. Tyville Slider (8) could hold on if there’s trouble behind him in the first turn.
Race 8: The 3, Uncompromising, has had my attention during the early stages of the meet; I’ll go with him again. JT Granite City (2) likes the inside and should be up with (8) Duran Admiral at the first turn. Admiral is short, so Granite gets the edge.
Trifecta: 23/238/123468 and 23/23/a
Superfecta: 23/238/1238/a
Race 10: The pic 3 opener is a Grade B. Pay The Lady (3) is my flyer; she looks ready to go. Superior Tycobb (5) is the class of the field, but the box draw isn’t the greatest.
Pick 3: 35/128/7(4)
Race 11: It’s a Grade C leg 2. Boc’s Snow Angel has the 8 box, and has won from there at a lower grade. Rock The House (1) and Cape Fear (2) are in boxes they like.
Trifecta: 8/12/1234 and 18/18/234
Race 12: The Grade A feature wraps up the pick 3. L’s Beach Bride in the 7 gets the nod. Nice early speed and there’s no quit in her. If you want a safety net of another, put in Superior Sniper (4). That’s another dog that doesn’t quit.
Trifecta: 7/4/a and 47/47/1268
Race 13: In this Grade D, Dawn Does It (1) gets the quinella nod. She like the inside and should be first or second.
Quinella: 1/a
