Greyhound Preview Palm Beach For 10/24/2014
*CRT Leyla*
What a way to start the racing weekend today at Palm Beach! Two of the biggest greyhound stars at the club Storm Control and CRT Leyla will square off in the finale in what should be an instant classic. Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”
Race 10 Grade A 545 Yards
One of the best lid flippers here at Palm Beach is #8 PJ Smoke Em Out from the Agganis Kennel. Has hit the board an astonishing 95% of the time this season but has been prone to coughing up the lead at go time.
#1 Gez Jacked Up from Suncoast Racing is third on the season wins list here with 9 of them, but hasn’t had any of them from a usually favorable inside box. #3 AMF Drumbeat will also be in the mix as well, as she is coming off two straight Place finishes.
Looking at this race, there aren’t any closers that I feel can catch “Smokey” here. He gets his 7th win of the season in this one.
Picks 8-1-3-5
Race 14 Grade B 545 Yards
When she drops down in class, she doesn’t stay long.
#8 KB’s Santa Fe from Douglas Racing is the grade drop that should pop this afternoon. Only has had this outside 8 box setup one time since transferring from Wheeling and that was a four length win back on 10/2. Has by far the fastest time of this field (29.57 secs)
To say I like Santa Fe to pound this field is an understatement.
Possible challenge could come from the other grade dropper #7 Atascocita Tedra from Suncoast Racing. Does prefer the outside boxes and can close out victories if she is near the lead pack at the end.
Not expecting any upset here as Santa Fe gets back to Grade A where she belongs.
Picks 8-7-5-4
*Storm Control*
Race 15 Grade A 545 Yards
The race of the day without a doubt.
When this program came out earlier in the week, the greyhound fans of Palm Beach couldn’t believe these two were in the same race. Like Christmas in October.
Spring Puppy Stakes Champ #7 Storm Control from owner Steve Schlachter could be the #1 racer when the new BetAmerica Rankings come out in a few weeks. Has scorched 3 W’s in a row and is setup to take the lead in this one with that prolific rush. Look out for this superstar when Stakes season starts up after the New Year.
#3 CRT Leyla from trainer Kenny Borges has been equally impressive. Owns the fastest 545 yards split of the season of any greyhound here (29.34 secs) and was coming off a 4 race winning streak that was stopped last time out. Rare combo of sweet box popper but even more lethal close.
Longshot play worth taking a look at is #6 TF Chucky Slick from top Kennel Rader Racing.
Storm Control looks to be in the best box and I am taking him to take the finale.
Picks 7-3-6-2
Top Pick Race 14- #8 KB’s Santa Fe
