Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 4/25/2014

The Stakes weekend at Palm Beach begins with a fantastic Friday card to start it all off. Many of up and coming superstars at this track will be on display for the Palm Beach faithful to follow. What a fitting beginning when the Puppy Stakes Final will be running tomorrow afternoon, Race 12. Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”
Race 10 Grade D 545 Yards
Usually a Grade D race can be a tough race to handicap, especially for winners but I found a few plays for this race. #7 Hit The Lid is the grade drop that could pop here. Has only 7 wins on the season, which isn’t a ton when you have ran 68 races since July. This field though is very light on the win percentage and favors this veteran racer. Look out for #6 JS Pole Smokin, who is just coming off participating in the Puppy Stakes Tournament and should be in the mix with her early steppin.
Picks: 7 - 4 - 6 - 5
Race 12 Grade A 545 Yards
One of two top Grade races on the Matinee card. #1 Super C Roxee from B & B Racing is arguably the best lid flipper at this track and gets the prime rail box to fire out of. What you always hope for when you pick this racer is that she is far enough ahead of the other greyhounds on the stretch because she will fade at the end. Is getting rare spot out of the 1 and should be able to outrush this field. #5 NB’s Nice and Easy from owner Mike Seeger could give Roxee trouble for the W. Has come off a 3 month break and has blitzed two sub 29.70 sec races upon return. Roxee I am going with for the win/place because of the setup but don’t be surprised if Easy has a shot at the end.

Race 14 Grade A 545 Yards
The race of the day without a doubt. Two recent puppies to make the top grade from Rader Racing are #3 Ben Affleck and #8 Lil Red Kykie. Are worth keeping an eye on here because they are potential superstars at this track and are facing top level competition for the first time. Too much class in this race to see a win for the youngsters. Consistent top class racer #4 JS SpeedyPebbles from owner Shannon Henry is sitting in a nice spot here. Between two slow breakers and looked real strong mid-track last time out. If she gets out of the box like she can, will not be caught by any closer. The sleeper here is #2 Racin Razzi, who has one of the more dynamic closes this track has to offer but will need Pebbles to not be in the mix. Pebbles gets her 22nd win on the season.
Picks: 4 - 2 - 7 - 1
Always like to end the card with good play. The 660 yard finale has early speedster #6 HS Altura most certainly grabbing the lead. Looking at the field, not seeing any closer that can catch. The 1 box is the most favored at this distance, so watch out for #1 CBJ Keyes to be a factor going for 9 wins on the season for The Royal Racing Team.
