Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 5/23/2014
by Palm Beach Jason
15 more fantastic races get the Memorial Weekend started at Palm Beach Friday. The highest handling greyhound track in the country brings back the Marathon in Race 12 and also showcases some of the best stars in Race 15 with the top A Graders. Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”
Race 11 Grade B 545 Yards
The hot prospect to watch today is the #8 Newbury Street. From superstar owner Steve Sarras, has won four of the six races she has ran in her young career and gets the best box at Palm Beach to bolt out of. Also has the fastest time of this field (29.68 secs).
Watch out for #7 SKN Megastar with 11 wins on the season. Is capable of stealing this from the young rookie with all that experience is loves the inside post.
Newbury Street gets her chance at the top grade after this race with the win.
Picks: 8 - 7 - 6 - 3
Race 12 Grade TA 738 Yards
My favorite race of the day without a doubt.
I’m probably the biggest fan of the Marathon at Palm Beach I have talked to. Maybe it’s because we haven’t seen this distance run here very much at all in past years but I think this race is just awesome. It goes for 40 seconds stretching out these raers, but really shows who has the best endurance of the greyhounds running. Love that Palm Beach is possibly trying to make this a regular thing.
Getting to the greyhounds, the only one who has actually won at this distance in this field is #8 CRT Firecracker from the Champions Racing Team. Perfect name for this weekend’s celebrations, looked fantastic last time out winning by 4 lengths over #2 Horse Chips.
Firecracker stays king of the Marathon and gets his second straight win.
Picks: 8 - 2 - 7 - 3
Race 15 Grade A 545 Yards
Early speed is what will matter in this race and is certainly going to be the big factor in who takes the W.
You look at #7 Super C Roxee’s last two races and you can’t believe that this racer has lost by a combined 27 lengths. This is one of the best lid flippers at this track and is facing demotion to B Grade (first time since March) with another stinker here.
There is no closer in this field and whoever gets the lead more than likely wins the finale.
Wildcard is #6 KB’s Key To Win, who has some early burn out of the box as well and has an outside chance.
Yes the name in the 1 box is correct. #1 Lets Get Sexy gets the prime 1 box to pull off another upset.
Going with Roxee to get her 24th win on the season here.
Picks: 7 - 6 - 4 - 1
Top Pick Race 12 - #8 CRT Firecracker
