Greyhound Preview: Palm Beach for 5/9/2014

The weekend is here and the racing should be fantastic at the Palm Beach Kennel Club, starting on Friday. Some of the best racers this track has to offer are on this card, with many of them in Race 12 & 14. Here are the top races I will be following for the Matinee at “The Beach.”
Race 8 Grade D 545 Yards
Most of the time, these “D” races are a tough call because of how many questions you have about the field. Not in this one. #5 Got That Swing from Rader Racing is back from Southland Park and is a former top level racer here last summer. Looks to be the class of this draw and I like for the win with that dynamic rush. #2 O’Gabby Drive surprisingly is still in this lower class after having initial success on her season. In this field, may be the only one that might challenge Swing for the W.

Race 12 Grade A 545 Yards
Two greyhounds that jumped off the page at me are #5 JS Fruit Loops and #1 Palm City Calico from B & B Racing. Fruit Loops is showing one of the biggest finishes around and is sitting mid track right where she likes it. Going for 3 in a row and has looked very impressive.
Calico is coming off a solid Puppy Stakes showing and has early burn out of the box on the rail. Wild card here is #6 Mad Holy Schmidt (great name) who is making his first appearance in the top class. Going with Fruit Loops but it wouldn’t surprise me if Calico took it as well.

Race 14 Grade A 545 Yards
The race of the day without a doubt. Two of the best rushers at Palm Beach #3 Jawa Bruiser and #2 Relativity from owner Chris Straka. The one that is setup to go here is #8 Storm Control. Surprisingly only making his third start in the prime 8 box, where he is 1 for 2 all time for wins. The Puppy Stakes Champ has too much room on the outside with good early steppin as well and will be right with the early speedsters at the end. Storm Control takes it for his 17th win of the season.
