Greyhound Preview - SOUTHLAND 8/21/14
By MoneyMaker Mike
Race 9 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - Going with the (1) CBJ Irish Cream as the key in this one as he is trying to make it three straight wins. Likes it mid to wide but does have the early speed to find a running lane. The (5) Magic Garret will be a strong challenger but probably won't be among the frontrunners right out of the box. He does however have a big late move down the stretch and if there is any trouble among the leaders, he has the closing ability to be there at the finish. To complete the play, I'll use the (6) Heyl who is coming off a nice win last time out and who has been running hard as evidenced by his three straight top three finishes. The (2) Slatex Garfield likes the rail so I'll include him in the tri and superfecta plays in case he gets loose early.
Pick 1-5-6-2
Race 10 - Grade A - 583 yard course - The key here is the (8) Border Campaign who has been steadily moving up in grade and is 10 out of 10 in the money so far in his very young career. Some of you may remember him as one of the five up and coming greyhounds at Southland that I talked about last week in a post. He does like the inside but with his strong rush to the turn it should put him in good position to keep his hot streak going. The (9) Braska Digger could be the greyhound that benefits here with both the dogs to his left going inside, he will have an opportunity to use his mid-track running style to challenge the frontrunners. I'll will also use both newcomers to the Southland track, the (2) Sword And Bow who is from the Dubuque track and the (6) Volando Edith who came here from Derby Lane in St. Pete, both were running grade A at those tracks so I can't overlook them here.
Pick 8-9-2-6
Race 17 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - I like the (8) HL's Travis as the key here as I think the outside box gives him the edge. He is going after his third win in five races and should be among the frontrunners right out of the box. His toughest challenge should come from the (7) CBJ Treat who has good early speed and she will be battling for the lead as well. The (2) Carrigfergus has been running hard as he has three straight second place finishes though he will need to get outside for his wide running style. He does break decent from the inside post so I'll use him here. To finish the tri and superfecta plays I'm using the (1) Rawlins as he is a strong rail runner and with the two dog looking to get wide, it opens up the rail for him.
Pick 8-7-2-1
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 6th race, a grade A contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (7) Manhatin. He has a nice rush to the turn, likes it mid-track and has recently dropped in grade. With 10 top four finishes in 14 races, the consistency is there and I'm looking for a good race from him here.
Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
