Greyhound Preview - SOUTHLAND 8/22/14
By MoneyMaker Mike
Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yards - The key here is the (8) CBJ Jackie O as she is well posted for her mid to wide running style. This outside post gives her the edge and in her first three official starts, she already has a second and third place finish. She is capable of early speed so she shouldn't have any trouble being among the frontrunners right out of the box. The (7) Lily Adams also shows good early speed and she will need a good break here to find room on the inside where she likes to run. The (1) Well Kept could benefit from this box as the two, three and four boxes all have greyhounds who like it mid to wide. He has three top four finishes in six races and those have come from the inside boxes. Completing the play I'll use the (6) Baako who has a nice late move and will be coming strong at the end.
Pick 8-7-1-6
Race 7 - Grade AA - 583 yards - I like the (6) Atasocita Gray in this one as he is going for his third win in four races in this grade and is the recent winner of the 2014 Southland Derby. Also worthy of being the key is the (4) Flying Riot who has six straight top three finishes and will be out fast and going paw to paw with Atascocita Gray for the win. These two should lead the pack to the wire but if there is any trouble among them, both the (2) JK Wish who should be well rested after having been off track for five months and the (7) Volando Emilo who has four wins already since coming here from the Caliente track, either or both could make the tri and superfecta tickets.
Pick 6-4-2-7
Race 9 - Grade A - 583 yards - Going with the (8) Counselor in this one. This impressive young pup has quickly worked his way up the ladder to Grade A with four straight wins. He has early speed, a strong rush and a big closing run so his greyhound racing future is bright indeed. I think he wins a close one here to make it five in a row. The (1) Bumblebee Drive will provide tough competition as the last time she was in this grade, she won by six lengths. A good break would give her the early edge so in case she hits the lid, I'm including her here. The (6) KB's Carbonado has three second place finishes in his last four races and the (4) Mega Quasar is overdue for a big race so I'll use them both to complete the play.
Pick 8-1-6-4
Race 16 - Grade TAA - 820 yards - In this always exciting super marathon contest I like the (5) KR All Amped Up to continue her hot streak. She has two wins and a second place effort in her last three races over this course and went box to wire last time she had the five box. The (3) RC Holdingspride will be her main competition and he did beat the five at the wire last time out so you have to use him as well. The (1) Flying Uzi may not be among the leaders early but with her ability to come from behind she can't be overlooked. This is the third straight time she's drawn the one box so it's possible she could try and go early from here. The (2) Blyzzud has been bumped and blocked in his last three races but still has a third and fourth place finish despite that. Gives 100% and worthy of being on the ticket.
Pick 5-3-1-2
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 5th race, a grade B contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (1) Arkans Quincey who is well posted for his rail running style. Last time from the one box, in grade A, he ran second. Now he's dropped to B grade and with his early speed shouldn't encounter any trouble in going to the lead. Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
