Greyhound Preview - SOUTHLAND 9/29/14

September 29th, 2014

By MoneyMaker Mike

Race 1 - Grade M - 583 yard course - I'm going with the (7) TC's Mike Trout as the key in this one as he is coming off two nice schooling wins and should be battling for the lead right out of the box. He has good early speed and likes the inside so with a good clean break I look for him to find running room early. Also a threat will be the (6) Deco Fantom Jet who has had three nice schooling races which includes two wins. He seems to like it mid-track and shows a good closing ability. To complete the play, I'll include the (8) SE's After Dark who has five top four finishes in ten races and is well posted in the eight box for her mid to wide running style and the (2) Slatex Charming who will be closing down the stretch.

Pick 7-6-8-2

Race 6 - Grade A - 583 yard course - A very competitive field but the pick here is the rail running (1) WW's Sparks Flying to catch the leaders down the stretch and come away with the win. She had a nice third place effort last time she drew the one box and I look for her to run good from here. The (3) Border Campaign is a fine and impressive young pup who has 14 top three finishes in 18 races and was spotlighted several weeks back as one of the up and coming young greyhounds to watch at Southland. He is also a strong closer and capable of a big race here. Finishing the play, I will use both the (6) All Business who is a solid grade A runner with lots of early speed and the (7) GS Fiftyshades who is posted well for his mid to wide running style.

Pick 1-3--6-7

Race 10 - Grade D - 660 yard course - The key in this one is the (2) TB's Sky Captain who likes the inside and who is 15 out of 19 in top four finishes in his young career. He needs to avoid early trouble on the turn and find running room on the rail in which to make his move. The (1) Kelsos Maverick will be his toughest challenger as this greyhound also likes running on the rail and has the early speed in which to go paw to paw with the Sky Captain. I look for these two to battle it out for the win. Also worth giving a shot is the (4) Into Eden who is a double drop in class and ran a strong second last time out after being caught down the stretch. Finishing the play, I will include the (8) Rachel Zane who likes it mid-track.

Pick 2-1-4-8

The MoneyMaker play of the evening is in the 4th race, a Grade B contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (2) Klutch who likes the inside and has a good early rush. I think he will be able to find running room early and he does have closing ability so if he's in good shape around the first turn, I like him to pull off the upset.

Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
