Greyhound Preview: Southland for 4/21/014
by Moneymaker Mike
This evening's card is full of longshot and upset possibilities and I am using several of those races in my picks tonight as we want to start the week off with a bang. I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter and a very nice weekend. Good luck to everyone and thanks for reading.
Race 4 - This is a grade TC race over the 703 yard distance course and I like the (6) T'S Boss Hoss who likes it wide and who will be closing fast for the win. He is a young greyhound but a pup with lots of potential as evidenced by his 13 top four finishes out of 16 races. Also a threat is the (2) GS April who has encountered more than her share of trouble lately but who avoids it here for a change and gets a great finish. The (3) Bill Compton is the morning line favorite and should be as he is a double drop and likes the inside. I'm also using the (8) Sheldon Cooper who is going for two wins in a row at this distance to complete my ticket.
Picks: 6 - 2 - 3 - 8
Race 6 - Here is a grade A race over the 583 yard course and I'm going with an upset special here by keying the (6) Carrigfergus who has dropped down in class and was bumped last time out but only lost by 3 1/2 lengths despite having the trouble. He likes it wide and should be in good shape to make a strong move down the backstretch to get close and then be flying in the stretch to get the win. Out fast will be the (3) Bumblebee Drive who will vie for the lead right from the start. Another early speed runner I like here is the (7) Inner Circle, a Palm Beacher invader who seems to be liking the Southland track. To finish out my tri and superfecta plays I will use the (2) Arkans Quincey who likes the inside and has early speed as well.
Picks: 6 - 3 - 7 - 2
Race 9 - This race is a grade TC contest over the 703 yard course and for another upset bid I will use the (5) VJ Mysterious who shows early speed and who gave a nice effort in her last race by finishing third out of the same five box as she is in here. I do like the (1) Bracket Buster who is posted well here and should be in the chase early. The (8) Dutch Ember likes it wide and will be closing fast down the stretch and I will use the (3) Slatex Tornado as he is another pup that has a big run late.
Picks: 5 - 1 - 8 - 3
Race 11 - Here is a grade AA contest over the 583 course where the (8) Atascocita Gray should have little trouble in putting another win on his resume. In his career at Southland, from the eight box, he is six out of six with four wins and two seconds. In the chase I will use the hard running (7) Mega Quasar who has a big rush and who likes it mostly mid to wide. A strong closer, I will use the (1) John Reese who gives 100% each and every time out and finishing the tri and superfecta plays will be the late running and wide (6) AMF Leaded Gas.
Picks: 8 - 7 - 1 - 6
The Moneymaker play this evening is in the 13th race, a grade B contest over the 660 yard course and is the (7) PJ Dream Big who likes it wide and in his last race over this course and in this grade he won by 1 1/2 lengths.
