Greyhound Preview: Southland for 4/25/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
Friday's program is highlighted by the running of the 2014 Southland Spring Futurity stakes along with the consolation race and several other good matchups. I have included both of those races in my picks for the evening so lets get the weekend started on the right note with some nice winning payoffs. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 6 - This race is a grade A contest over the 583 yard course and our first pick on this night of championship racing is the (8) Braska Dusty who runs very good from the eight box, out of seven starts in this box, he has won four times and had two second place finishes. I am going to use the (1) PJ Timeless, the Palm Beach invader to be the surprise of the race with a big run here. The (7) Flying Rainmaker came from Naples and has shown promise in his first seven races here. I also like the (3) Eureka Episode to have a shot in the tri and superfecta plays.
Picks: 8 - 1 - 7 - 3
Race 9 - This is the consolation race of the 2014 Southland Spring Futurity Stakes and my pick to win here is the (2) Dexter Ambigram who you can always count on to give you a great effort each time out. He has talent galore and will be a force to be reckoned as his racing future sure looks bright. The wide running and well positioned (8) Deacon Clayborne should also be a factor here. I will include the (5) Beryl Drumm and the (1) Branding Iron as greyhounds worth keeping an eye on in this race.
Picks: 2 - 8 - 5 - 1
Race 11 - Here is the 2014 Southland Spring Futurity Stakes final and I'm going with the outstanding greyhound (7) Flying Titanium to take the trophy home for the Lester Raines kennel. He has won three of the four stakes races in this contest and finished a close second in the other one, certainly the one to beat. I do like the (2) WW's Dove Call to give a great effort here as she also won three out of the four stakes rounds and who is posted well on the inside. Also having a shot and worth a play in the tri's and superfectas will be the (3) L's Nipco and the (8) K's Ray. Should be one heck of a championship race and good luck to all eight greyhounds and their kennels and trainers.
Picks: 7 - 2 - 3 - 8
Race 18 - The final race of the evening is a grade TAA contest over the 703 yard distance course and I'm picking the (1) L's Kolo to hit the lid and go box to wire. Last time he had the one box he won by eight lengths so he definitely got my attention with that big race. Also in the chase I'm going with the (8) Slice Of Heaven as he likes it wide and won by nine lengths himself out of the eight box the last time he had it. I'm not going to overlook the Derby Lane invader the (6) PJ Fresno as he had much trouble last race and can go early or come from behind either one. Finishing out the play I am including the (3) Flying Warrior.
Picks: 1 - 8 - 6 - 3
The Moneymaker play tonight is in the 14th race, a grade D contest over the 583 yard course and is the (3) Arkans Bd Jean who likes it inside.
