Greyhound Preview: Southland for 5/29/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
Let's get a early jump on the upcoming weekend's activities with a Thursday night slate of 18 exciting greyhound races on the card and several nice wagering opportunities to put some extra cash in our pockets. The picks for Southland this evening cover races over four different courses and we get started early with a play in the first race of the night.
Race 1- Grade D - 583 yards - Going with the (3) AMF Sunny Blaze as he should be vying for the lead right out of the box. He has been showing a lot of early speed and if he clears the turn in front he will be tough to catch. I do like the (7) Klutch to be in the chase as he also demonstrates early foot and will be battling for the lead as well. It was tough to choose the key here as either greyhound is capable of going box to wire but I went with the more consistent three dog as the key. For those of you who like playing the tri's and superfectas, I will include the (2) Future King who likes the inside and the (4) Kelso's Claymore who has the class and is capable of running a big race here.
Picks: 3 - 7 - 2 - 4
Race 9 - Grade TD - 660 yards - The key here is the (5) O Ya Gordy who last time out, in his first race at this distance, gave a very good effort and was closing fast while getting a third place finish. This time I believe he gets the win with a strong stretch run to win at the wire. The (4) T's Heavy Chevy will challenge him though and could just be the surprise of the race after being the beaten favorite the last two times on this distance course. The (7) Boc's Missle can't be overlooked as she is a double drop in class and she likes it midtrack to wide, a threat for sure here. The (1) KL's Don't Blink loves the inside and with the rail spot I'll use her to finish the ticket.
Picks: 5 - 4 - 7 - 1
Race 15 - Grade TB - 820 yards - Yes, it's another exciting super marathon contest and I'm going with the (5) Slatex Platinum to win a close one. In his last two contests over distance courses, he has lost by a length and by a neck and here he gets a little more distance to get the win. He is back at Southland after a short stay at Naples and should be good to go tonight. The (3) AJN Lebron James has three seconds and a third place finish in his last four races over the course and will be in the chase once again here. I also like the late closing (2) WW's Kin to be making a strong move late down the stretch and I'll also use the wide running (7) PJ New York in case there is trouble with the frontrunners.
Picks: 5 - 3 - 2 - 7
Race 18 - Grade TAA - 703 yards - I'm going with the (5) Flying War Wager in this one as he is going for his third straight win tonight. He is undefeated since coming back to Southland from Naples and is going to be tough to beat here. The (7) AMF Virginiaslim has a good rush, likes it midtrack to wide and is posted well here and must be included on any ticket. The (8) Boc's Yohanblake is a class runner and coming off four straight top three finishes and always seems to be in the chase at the end. The (1) Flying Warmaiden will finish the tri and superfecta plays.
Picks: 5 - 7 - 8 - 1
This evening's Moneymaker play is in the 5th race, a grade B contest over the 583 yard course and is the (2) WW's Spark Gap. He likes the inside and is dropping in grade. Look for him to win one at the wire here.
