Greyhound Preview: Southland for 5/31/2014

May 31st, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

On tap this evening at the Southland track are 18 exciting and entertaining greyhound races and numerous solid wagering opportunities for the betting public. It's time to put some cash in our pockets and with that in mind let's check out the picks for this evening. As always, good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 1 - Grade C - 660 yards - I'm going with the inside running (1) K's Krieger to get the evening started with a winner. He has finished second three times in a row and now draws the rail which should give him the edge against this field. The (8) Kiowa Tree Cry has tons of early speed and I'm looking for him to vying for the lead right out of the box. I do like the (7) Ahridgeuhnull to be closing hard and fast down the stretch and to complete the ticket, I'll include the (2) WW's Siege who has encountered a slow start after coming here from the Orange Park track but who is running better lately with a win, a third place and a fourth place finish in her last four races.

Picks: 1 - 8 - 7 - 2

Race 7 - Grade AA - 583 yards - Here we have the very talented (6) Flying Titanium going for his sixteenth win in twenty five races and I look for him to get it done once again. His last five races have resulted in four wins and a second and once he gets the lead, he is extremely hard to catch. The (2) CBJ Butterfinger is also running great with two wins and two second place finishes in his last four contests and will be in the chase here as well. Should these two greyhounds have any early trouble, the wide running (8) John Reese has the post position and a strong close to steal the show. The (7) Slatex Taos needs the inside but does have a good rush so I'll include him in my tri and superfecta plays.

Picks: 6 - 2 - 8 - 7

Race 11 - Grade TAA - 660 yards - Another distance race and my key here is the (2) Barts Hammerdown who is going for his third win in his last four contests. In his last two wins he has gone box to wire and I look for him to get out fast once again tonight. The (4) Topline Drive is always dangerous and has three wins and two second place finishes himself in his last six races and I believe these two will battle all the way around the track for the victory. I also will use (3) Energy Drink and the (1) PJ You Ask Why in my play as both are capable of hitting the ticket in tri and superfecta plays.

Picks: 2 - 4  - 3 - 1

Race 12 - Grade C - 583 yards - I like the (7) CBJ Firecracker to get the win in this one. He has two wins already in his very young career and with his good rush, should avoid early trouble and be in good shape to get the win. The (1) AMF Sunny Moon will have something to say about that as he is coming off a five length win last time out and likes the inside so the one box makes him a definite threat. Also to be considered is the (6) GS Buddy who a little over a month ago was the betting public favorite in a grade B contest. To complete the ticket I will use the inside running (3) HL Doug who is coming off a two week rest.

Picks: 7 - 1 - 6 - 3

This evening's Moneymaker play is in the 14th race, a grade D contest over the 583 yard course and is the (1) Mega Tranquill. He had much trouble last time out but I'm going to overlook that race as with his big rush and an inside running style, he should have the edge to get the job done in this field.
