Greyhound Preview: Southland for 6/25/2014

June 25th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

Wednesday's program at South has 18 exciting races on tap and several of those contests stand out as good wagering opportunities so the picks for this card will be concentrated on them. There are a couple of appealing lower grade races as well a TA and AA race that drew my interest. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 1 - Grade D  - 583 yard course - The pick here is the (1) Par Demander, a young but talented greyhound who has been impressive in his first three official races. He has a win and two second place finishes and with his strong rush to the turn and a nice late kick should continue his great start to his career. Also worth a play here is the (7) Super Gift, a double drop who likes it mid to wide and is well posted to challenge for the front. The (4) NB's Gutsnglory is also a double drop in class, shows early speed and needs to break clean here to avoid any early trouble. Finishing the tri and superfecta plays I will include the (3) WW's Pop Gun who has an inside running style.

Pick 1-7-4-3

Race 7 - Grade M - 583 yard course - In this contest I am going with the (7) Flying Tigerbaby who is coming off a nice second place finish last time out and I look for her to clear the first turn in good shape and turn it on from there. The (8) Hurricane Riot also shows early speed and will be contending for the lead right out of the box so I will use her despite the trouble she encountered the last time she had the eight box. To complete the play I am including the (3) Hugh Of Ruckus who also will be vying for the early lead and the (2) KB's Atlas who will be coming strong down the stretch.

Pick 7-8-3-2

Race 17 - Grade TA - 703 yard course - I like the (7) SE's Jet Fuel as the key in this race as he seems to be getting back in form from almost a month long layoff. I think he catches the leaders in the stretch and wins at the wire. The (6) Magic Verizon always gives 110% and has a win and a third place finish in her last two races at this distance. Even though the (5) KR All Amped Up is an inside runner, her strong rush may have her in good position early to make a nice run at the leaders . The (8) BOC's Blast Off is posted well as he likes it mid to wide and for that reason I'll use him to complete the play.

Pick 7-6-5-8

Race 18 - Grade AA - 703 yard course - Going with the (1) Magic Evo as the one to beat here. She has nice early speed and can come from behind as well so with her two wins and three second place finishes in her last six races she is the key in this contest. The (3) Flying War Wager can win this one as well as she is going for his third straight win over this distance. Since coming here from the Naples track she has five wins in seven races and it should be these two battling for the win. Should either of those two greyhounds have trouble, I will include the strong closing (4)Gigawatt who just won the Razorback stakes contest and the early speed and wide running (8) TF Ashley.

Pick 1-3-4-8

The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 12th race, a grade D contest over the 583 yard course and is the (9) BOC's Bonkers. I like her because she has a strong rush and a nice closing ability and is posted well in this race with her wide running style.
