Greyhound Preview: Southland for 7/23/2014
by Moneymaker Mike
Welcome to another evening of top notch greyhound racing at Southland. On tap are 18 exciting and entertaining races with some solid top grade contests. I have concentrated the picks on several of these grade AA contests and have found some appealing wagering opportunities that caught my interest. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.
Race 2 - Grade C - 583 yard course - I'm going with the (1) Remus as the key in this race as he likes the rail and he is running very good as evidenced by his five straight top three finishes. I look for him to be the leader early and hang on to win it at the wire. The (8) Famous Jameis likes it outside and will be coming strong down the stretch and does have two wins and a second place effort in his last three races. The (5) Volando Dosh has a good rush to the turn and the fact he is dropping in grade could have him in good position to challenge the leaders all the way to the end. I will include the (4) Time Square in the tri and superfecta plays as he is capable of a late move.
Pick 1-8-5-4
Race 7 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - The one to beat here is the hot running (8) Future King who is going after his fourth straight win which includes a win from this same eight box last time out. This is a tough field but I'm sticking with him to keep his winning streak going. The (6) John Reese will make his usual strong late move and will be gaining down the stretch so he's on the ticket along with the (1) Kiowa North who likes the rail and should have early running room vying for the lead. I'll also use the (4) Rawlins who has good early speed and may clear the turn in good position to challenge for the front.
Pick 8-6-1-4
Race 11 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - The pick here is the (8) Manhatin who likes it mid-track and he ran a nice race last time out finishing a close second in his first contest back after a three month layoff. Some of you may remember that he was the Moneymaker pick in that race and I look for him to get the win here. He's a talented greyhound that once he gets back in form from the layoff, he'll be very tough to beat. I also like the (2) Quick Reply who has good early speed and likes the rail and the (3) CBJ Snickers because of his good rush. To complete the ticket, I'll use the (4) Western Road who has had trouble lately but can come from behind.
Pick 8-2-3-4
Race 18 - Grade TAA - 703 yard course - The (6) Flying Soldier gets the nod here as he is going for his third win in his last four races. He has a good rush to the turn and when he gets the lead, he's tough to catch. The (1) GS April likes the rail and is going for her second straight win. The (4) WW's Spark Gap has been running good as well with two wins and a second place effort in his last four races and can't be overlooked. I'll add the (5) L's Flaco for tri and superfecta plays as he shows a win in this grade just a few races back and will be a nice longshot to include on the ticket.
Pick 6-1-4-5
The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 14th race, a grade D contest over the 660 yard course and is the (1) Flying Tigerlady. This young pup won her maiden race by nine lengths and came back with a nice second place finish but in her last three races has encountered a good bit of trouble. This is her first time at this distance and I believe she runs a good race here as she is capable of early speed and also being able to finish strong. She may be a longshot but at the nice odds she should go off at, well worth a play here.
