Greyhound Preview: Southland for 7/28/2014

July 28th, 2014

by Moneymaker Mike

Monday's greyhound action at Southland features 18 exciting races on the program and there are some solid wagering opportunities, especially over the 660 distance course. With that in mind, the picks this evening are concentrated on three of those contests and the Moneymaker play is also over this distance. Let's get the week off to a winning start by putting some cash in our pockets. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 4 - Grade D - 583 yard course - The key here is the (6) Dark N Demure as she has been very impressive in two schooling wins and in her first official start last time out simply blew the field away winning by fourteen lengths. She likes the inside and with such a strong rush that she has shown so far, she should be able to hit the lid here as well. The (1) Arkans Dominic will also be out fast and with his rail running style makes him a threat. He does show some fade at the end but if there is trouble behind him, he could still be in good shape to hit the ticket. I'll include for tri and superfecta plays the (7) Slatex Richmond who has four straight second place finishes and the (8) Dreamt Of Gold who is posted well for her mid-track running style.

Pick 6-1-7-8

Race 13 - Grade C - 660 yard course - I'm going with the (1) Slatex Sandstorm in this one as the one to beat. He likes the inside and has four top three finishes in his last six races, all over this distance course. This will be the first time at this distance for the (3) Famous Jameis but I'm going to use him in the play as he shows a strong closing ability and the added distance will help. In his young career he has eight top four finishes in 10 races so the potential is definitely there. The (2) Lookout Lori has good early speed and the (6) Volbeat likes it mid-track and is the class of the race so I'll use them both to complete the ticket.

Pick 1-3-2-6

Race 17 - Grade A - 660 yard course - A competitive field in this one and the (8) Barts Hammerdown is the key. He is well posted as he likes it mid to wide and he should find room to run as the majority of greyhounds in this race like the inside. I see him coming from behind and making a strong challenge for getting the win at the wire. The (2) Kiowa Red Dawn is in a tough spot as he likes it mid to wide but he can get out early from here as he has a win and a second place effort in his last three races, both from the one box. The (6) Lucia and the (7) Ghost Buster both have recent wins over this distance in this grade so I'll include them in the play.

Pick 8-2-6-7

Race 18 - Grade AA - 660 yard course - A tough field but the one to beat here is the (7) Smokey Joe who is going for his third straight win at this distance. He likes it mid to wide and has a sparkling 11 top four finishes in 14 races this season which includes four wins. The (2) RS Money Clip has been running hard lately as evidenced by his two wins along with a second and third place effort in his last six races so look for him to be one of the early frontrunners. Another strong challenger will be the (5) State Of Art. He has been giving 110% as you can tell by his five straight top four finishes including a win and three second place efforts and he will battle all the way to the finish line. The (3) KB's Alpine is worth a place on the ticket as he has also been running good with a first and second place effort in his last two races.

Pick 7-2-5-3

This evening's Moneymaker play is in the 14th race, a grade D contest over the 660 yard course and is the (7) Flying Tigerbaby. The main reason I like her in this race is due to her impressive debut over this course last time out. She went to the lead early and held it until being caught in the stretch to finish second. With this being her second time over this distance course, I think she's once again out early with the difference being she doesn't fade down the stretch.
