Greyhound Preview: Southland for 8/13/2014

August 13th, 2014

Wednesday's card at Southland consists of 18 exciting races showcasing talented greyhounds in both lower and top grade contests. There are some young greyhounds that have shown potential early in their careers and several veteran ones that are consistently running well in the upper grades. The picks for this program are concentrated on those races so let's put some cash in our pockets by taking advantage of some solid wagering opportunities. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Race 3 - Grade M - 583 yards - The key here is the (7) Pacman Episode  who likes it mid - track and who has shown a strong closing ability in his very young career. He is three out of three in the money so far and I think he's the one to beat in this race. The (5) NB's Hero Win has a very good rush to the turn and should be battling for the lead right out of the box. Finishing the tri and superfecta plays, I'll use the (2) PJ Love Bites and the (6) KL's Knight as both showed some potential in previous schooling races. It's the first official start for each of them.

Pick 7-5-2-6

Race 4 - Grade AA - 583 yards - I'm going with the (2) Kiowa Producer to get back to his winning ways after being off track for a month or so. This talented greyhound loves the inside and his last two wins both came from this same two box he has this evening. The (6) CBJ Old Glory rushes good and won his last six box start by six lengths so I'm looking for him to go paw to paw with Kiowa Producer from the break to the finish line. The (8) Ribbet is a hard running greyhound who gives 100% each time out and if he finds running room early, he'll be in the chase at the end. The (4) L's Nipco has early speed and a mid-track running style, in case he avoids trouble early, I'll use him here.

Pick 2-6-8-4

Race 6 - Grade B - 583 yards - The (8) Alone All Alone is my pick here as he is well posted for his mid to wide running style and is a recent grade drop who in his last race gave a strong effort in finishing second by a neck despite encountering trouble. The (2) Arkans Bd Buck and the (5) Mega Defiant should challenge for the early lead and I'll use both of them in my play as I believe they will battle right out of the box for the front. I won't overlook the (7) Slatex Nixon as if there is any trouble among the leaders, he could close strong enough to make the ticket.

Pick 8-2-5-7

Race 18 - Grade AA - 660 yard course - A very competitive field here but I'm going with the (5) Topline Drive as the key in this one as I believe he wins it at the wire. I'm looking for him to make his strong patented move down the backstretch and kick it in high gear around the final turn to close the leaders down. The (2) Boc's Blitzerman is going for three straight so must be considered and he will need a good break to get outside where he likes to run. The (4) Smokey Joe has encountered trouble the last two races but he should be out fast here and avoid any bumps that has hindered him lately. He is capable of hitting the lid so he's on the ticket. Finishing the tri and superfecta plays will be the (6) State Of Art as he likes it wide and may find running room in which to make his move.

Pick 5-2-4-6

The Moneymaker play of the evening is in the 16th race, a grade B contest over the 660 yards and the pick is the (1) Magic Sprint. I like this greyhound because he gave a nice effort last time out over this distance from the one box and he should have running room early with the two and three both looking to get to the outside. He came here from the Mardi Gras track with six wins in fourteen races and he's won two C grade contests since arriving at Southland. I believe he gets out quick here and with an open lane should challenge for the win. He's worth a shot here as odds should be good on him.
