Race 2 - Grade C - 660 yard course - A surprise here as I like the (1) Arkans Quake as the key in this one. I like her because of her having the one box since she has an inside running style. The last two times she has drawn the one box, she has a win and a second place finish. The (2) Famous Jameis will certainly pose a big threat though as he will be closing extremely fast down the stretch and already has 11 top three finishes in his young career of 13 races. The (6) Slatex Sandstorm is usually out fast and will need to break good here to get to the inside where he likes to run so I won't overlook him in case he manages to get there. Completing the play, I'll use the (4) Flying Platinum as he's a drop in grade and running a 660 distance instead of his usual 703 yard distance.
Pick 1-2-6-4
Race 6 - Grade M - 583 yard course - The key here is the (5) CBJ Laura B who with her good early rush and mid-track running style makes her the one to beat. Gives 110% and has shown good potential in her very young career. The (8) Yikiteyak should be her main challenge and she also has a strong rush to the turn and already has three in the money finishes in just four races. She should go paw to paw with Laura B as these two should be the frontrunners and I look for them to battle to the wire. Completing the play I'll use the (3) Bob's Tese who likes the inside and will be looking for running room right out of the box. The (1) Lily Adams also likes the rail and should benefit from the two dog looking to get wide.
Pick 5-8-3-1
Race 7 - Grade AA - 583 yard course - The highlight of the evening with the (8) Flying Titanium showcasing his tremendous skills and going for his 6th win in his last 7 races. He is the recently crowned champ of the BetAmerica Peoples Choice Challenge contest and definitely the one to beat here. The (3) HL's Travis will challenge early as he likes it mid to wide and breaks good from the inside, last two times from the three box, he won. The (5) CBJ Irish Cream is coming off a nice four length win last time and if there is any early trouble among the frontrunners, he could be the surprise of the race. To complete the tri and superfecta plays, I'll use the (2) John Reese because of his strong closing ability.
Pick 8-3-5-2
Race 17 - Grade A - 660 yard course - I'm using the (5) Barts Hammerdown as the key here. He has been the betting favorite in his last three races but has encountered trouble in each of them yet still able to get a second and third place finish in two of them. I like his never give up attitude. The (8) Flying Zinc is well posted for her wide running style and with her good early speed should be one of the frontrunners right out of the box. I like the (2) Kay Rock Sweet as she likes the inside and should find running room early on the rail in which to position herself in good position to mount a challenge. The late running (4) T's Boss Hoss will complete the play as he will be flying down the stretch.
Pick 5-8-2-4
The MoneyMaker play of the evening is in the 10th race, a grade B contest over the 583 yard course and the pick is the (6) Lunar Landing. I am giving this greyhound a shot because although he hasn't shown much since arriving at Southland from the Birmingham track, he did have 19 top three finishes there which included 15 wins. It's not a matter of if he can run, it's when will he win and with the long odds he will probably go off at here, I'm willing to give him a shot here.
