Playing Lucky 7s requires a trio of $7 bets on each of the Group 1 races with win, place, show, and exacta the available pools. The highest ROI wins $667, those with an ROI of better than 210% win/share $666, and those with an ROI of better than 70% win/share $666. So with $42 to wager over the two races ($21/each), the magic number for a prize is $71.40.

Criterion is a frequent bridesmaid, having finishing second at this level twice in the past six months, but the Sebring colt seems well-suited to the mile whereas I’m not sure that’s the case with horses like El Roca and Bull Point—both by Fastnet Rock and shorter prices.

The Guinness Canterbury Stakes caps the Lucky 7s action with a 2:22 a.m. EDT post, and some older males entice at bigger prices versus the favored mares of Appearance and Red Tracer and three-year-old colt Zoustar.
Sacred Falls won a Group 1 last year going a mile over heavy ground, and more recently has been close to last week’s Chipping Norton Stakes winner Boban. Sacred Falls has two trials as a four-year-old going short but seems better-suited to longer distances and is worth a look at 20-to-1.
