Saturday's card at Gulfstream Park is the highlight of the Championship Meet — Florida Derby Day.
As the eyes of the racing world turn to South Florida, let's see who you should focus on!
Jockeys
Irad Ortiz Jr. has owned Gulfstream this winter. His 131 wins are 40 more than second-place Paco Lopez, his $5 million in purses beat Tyler Gaffalione by almost $1.8 million, his 27% win rate beats anyone with more than 15 starts by eight or more percentage points, and his in-the-money rate of 58% bests everyone by nine or more.
Other than Ortiz, the biggest winners in the regular colony include Lopez (90 wins, 17%), Gaffalione (89 wins, 18%), and Luis Saez (85 wins, 16%). All are riding strongly on both dirt and turf.

Trainers
Todd Pletcher has reinforced his status as the king of Gulfstream winter. His 54 wins give him a clear lead over Saffie Joseph (47) and Mike Maker (30), the next two in the win column.
Looking at percentages, though? Pletcher's 25% strike rate compares well, though a few other regular barns draw eyes.
Danny Gargan's 22 wins from 56 starts give him a 39% win rate. He is also 40-for-56 (71%) in the money. Bill Mott has also sparkled, with 23 wins from 83 starts, a 28% win rate.
Looking at lawn, Pletcher, Gargan, and Mott have all been strong, though Wesley Ward (8-for-26, 31%) and Jack Sisterson (5-for-19, 26%) have had good meets on the grass, too.
Dirt has been Joseph's forte (28-for-101, 28%), but watch out for Georgina Baxter, as well. With seven wins in 17 starts (41%), her main-track horses are primed to fire.
