Harness Preview: Picks and Horses to Watch May 19-22

Selected features and the never-ending TwinSpires’ horses-to-watch list (H2W) share keys to success in exotics, win, place and show payoffs.

MOHAWK MILES

Each Thursday we highlight some probable long shots from Mohawk Park. If they do not win at first crack we add them to the H2W the following week as bet-backs or in selected features, adding new possibilities to this section.
R5 – #5 Willtowin Hanover: One good move and held well.

 

FEATURES

Running Aces, Race 4

One of the longer fields on this early-season program appears to come up competitive, at least according to the morning line (ML). We like an outsider (as of this writing) for price and purpose. That pacer is Bob Johnson’s #7 Sweet Young Thing. Her morning line of 8-1, if accurate, offers a bargain. She’s coming off a win in her first race of this new meet and there is little doubt she will be going great guns again facing a similar crowd.

FEATURES

Vernon, Race 1

Here’s a good bet to launch the Vernon program; it’s a key horse for win alone and exotics. From last week’s H2W list, #4 Unusual Clarity returns off of a monster trip. She was caught on the outside all the way around and held to finish second at 14-1. Here she is a win bet and a win-key. With her in exacta, trifecta and superfecta action we endorse (in post order) – #1 The Hunt Is On; #5 Fiona; #7 My Standards.

 

Saturday, May 21

POWER PLAYS

Meadowlands, Races 2, 3, 4

Let’s take this trio of races and present Pick-3 contenders you should consider when building a ticket, while backing the horses involved in single-race exotics and/or win, place and show.

Race 2
Seven four-year-old pacers only here, where we take a pair in leg one. #3 Bettors Donttell has started the season with speed and cash. #6 Grand Cayman is another from the hot Crissy Crissman-Bier stable that should offer an overlay.

Race 3
An Open trot with older trotters featuring #7 Atlanta offers the second leg a price beating that fabulous mare. Outsider #5 Weslynn Quest broke and galloped in the Miss Versatility episode and we forgive her so as to return here with a big price and upset.

Race 4
A claiming pace of eight narrows to three for us. In post order they are: #3 Machdavid, who has hit the board 50 percent this season, mostly wins; #6 Italian Delight N has been productive here and on the Yonkers half-mile; #7 Dina Bolt N is as fast as they come in this class and has the earnings to back it.

CUTLER CREW

Meadowlands, Race 8

The Arthur Cutler Memorial ($170k) brings together a Free For All field of trotters we should all be familiar with by now. Two of them, #1 Ecurie D Dk and #6 It's Academic, debut here for the season. The rest have been in action at the top trotter rung.
Hot at the venue, #7 Lovedbythemasses has won six of seven and the crowd will back continuing the streak. Trainer Jeff Cullipher also sends #5 Swingforthefences.
Leaving from post 8 should not bother #8 When Dovescry. She’s in her second ’22 start and has age and money on her side. She was third in the Miss Versatility two weeks back, following Herculisa and Atlanta, and has a propensity to charge late when the early quarters are dueled away.
