Harness racing: Hoosier Park plays for April 14

Each week, Frank Cotolo employs money-management tactics to build wagers that focus on plump profits. For the April 14 program at Hoosier Park, here are some horses for selected plays that can fit in any type of wager.

Race 2

Three-year-old #2 Hawks Z Tam should not have surprised bettors when he came in second last week. He was ready for his second start, following some bright qualifiers to back up his top breeding. This week, from the inside, he looks the most promising against some proven losers.

Last week, #5 Major Hooligan was wicked in the stretch as a favorite, unable to beat our top pick. He won’t be a favorite here, which makes him valuable.

Race 5

More inexperienced pacers are let loose in this conditioned affair, and we see a shot for a very good win price.

Hoping the public is set on some obvious morning-line choices, we are looking for #5 Tellitlikelynn to return to his late 2020 Hoosier form. The James Yoder trainee was racing better than his odds in October and made his qualifiers time-worthy this year. His first 2021 start was a race he needed badly and he could show off his sharpness this time.

With a new trainer and a decent qualifier, #7 Da Peoples Panther finished his 2020 season in a Hawthorne race, where he made a move in this company that showed maturity.

Race 6

In his first start, #1 Motoring Michael was a big favorite, and for a near half-mile, he raced like one. He made up five lengths but was hanged on the outside and tired badly in the next panel. He raced again the next week and never made a move.

Such inconsistency is common for maidens, so this time, expect a more productive effort and a better price.

Another novice sophomore, #4 Ten Chances, found a good spot early last week and was sucked along to finish second. He is a promising product of local sire Net Ten Eom.

Race 10

#8 Crankin' It Up has returned to trainer Nicole Agosti, after he made some major noise at Oak Grove in November.

He qualified well at Hoosier in early April, and he should be in the front few or on top early. The public won’t take his Oak Grove experience seriously, which gives backers a good shot at a longshot.

You must respect #5 Always Relentless. He lives up to his name and is bound to be more productive after the morbid trip he had earlier in the month.

Race 12

#5 Bluebird Yoshi is a son of Jailhouse Jesse with little experience and a lot of speed he has yet to learn how to manage. We would like to be on his side when he handles his speed, so we'll take a chance in this event at a big price.

Coming off a smart place finish last week, #3 ER Nelson could pick up again on speed he has inherited from sire Guccio.
