How to bet the 2023 Princess of Sylmar Stakes

July 24th, 2023

A total of six Keystone State-bred fillies and mares will travel one mile and 70 yards over the all-weather strip in Monday’s $100,000 Princess of Sylmar S. at Presque Isle Downs. #1 One More Kelly (2-1) earned a career-best 87 Brisnet Speed figure for a recent allowance tally at Penn National on the dirt and gets the nod in the affair. By Not This Time, the four-year-old is a two-time winner on the surface and is the lone entrant in the cast who was a victress last time out.

One More Kelly had been outrun in a pair of deep stakes races held on the lawn prior to posting a fine victory in her latest endeavor, and the bay seems poised to make it two in succession on Monday. The Brandon Kulp trainee is well drawn on the rail and will sit an advantageous voyage tucked in behind a pair of speedy contenders to the top of the lane while saving ground. Pablo Morales will be in the stirrups atop the filly.

#4 Tactical Pajamas (8-5) won this race in 2022 and brings solid sprint form to the field in hopes of retaining her crown for conditioner Ron Potts. The Uncle Lino mare is the pace of the race and loves the oval as a seven-time local winner. She proved last campaign of being capable of handling the distance, and the five-year-old would be no surprise, especially if she clears the cast in the opening stages of the contest.

Tim Girten’s #6 Lovely Ever After (6-1) boasts a fine turn of foot, and the consistent miss sports a solid 9-2-4-1 mark on the surface, as well. Midshipman chestnut has won or placed in four of her five career efforts at today’s distance, and the five-year-old will receive a healthy pace to run at turning for home at a fair price, too. The mare runs for a conditioner having a strong meeting and will have Scott Spieth taking the reins once again.
