How to bet the 2026 Ellis Park Turf Stakes

August 21st, 2026

A deep field of 11 fillies and mares will travel 1 1/16 miles on the green in Sunday’s $175,000 Ellis Park Turf S. The race marks the return of the fantastic #6 Lush Lips (2-5) for conditioner Brendan Walsh, and while the four-year-old will be a short price in the affair, it seems too difficult to go against the Grade 1 heroine.

Ellis Park Turf Wagers

  • $4 trifecta key 6 with 4,8,10 ($24)
  • 10-cent superfecta 6 with 4,8,10 with all with all ($21.60)

The four-year-old daughter of Ten Sovereigns sports a fine 11-5-4-0 mark on the grass in her career and has been first or second in nine races in succession. She earned her biggest win to date in the Queen Elizabeth II (G1) at Keeneland in her penultimate run of 2025 and kicked off this season with a visually impressive score in the Honey Fox (G3) at Gulfstream Park. The $3.7 million November purchase will always be in range with regular rider Tyler Gaffalione in the silks.

Rusty Arnold’s #8 Daisy Flyer (8-1) checked in third in a local allowance race in her first run since April and has a lot of exotics intrigue in her second off the pine. The Mshawish four-year-old is a Grade 3 victress and can be very good on her best day. She possesses a strong late kick and will be moving into contention in the stretch with Axel Concepcion in the irons.

#4 Next Up (15-1) was a nice second in the race in 2025 and has an excellent prep for this tilt with an allowance second on the grounds. The four-year-old daughter of Accelerate has only run on the grass on five occasions in her lifetime, but she has proven to be a solid turf performer in those tries, and she is a major exotics contender with Mario Gutierrez retaining the mount.

#10 Icona (10-1) is a consistent sort who was last seen taking an allowance race on the grounds in her latest showing. The Kingman four-year-old will make her black-type debut on Sunday and comes in fresh with a few solid morning moves leading up to her second run on the course. Ben Curtis picks up the ride.
