How to bet the Bayakoa Stakes

A small field of six fillies and mares will contest Sunday’s $100,000 Bayakoa (G3) at Los Alamitos.

Half of the field prefers to be in the hunt from the start which will prompt a very honest early tempo in the Bayakoa. #1 Miss Stormy D, #4 Stellar Sound, and #5 Message will be in the first flight of the 1 1/16-mile affair.

Bayakoa Contenders

#1 MISS STORMY D -- Carla Gaines charge has shown solid improvement since moving to the dirt four races back, led by a dominant allowance victory at Santa Anita most recently. Tapizar filly faces a big class rise off the long break, but she is training well and not without a chance for a heady outfit. Rispoli rides.

#2 BLUE DIVA -- Stakes heroine hasn’t won since February and moves from the all-weather to the dirt as well. Bluegrass Cat filly is 3-for-4 at the trip, though she will need a major step forward to pull off the upset on Sunday under Gonzalez.

#3 DONUT GIRL -- Outsider defeated first-level allowance foes on the green most recently, but her overall form is far from impressive. I will let the 5-year-old beat me in this spot.

#4 STELLAR SOUND -- Tapit sophomore aired in an allowance tilt while making her first run for McCarthy last time out. Lightly raced filly has trained swiftly in the interim, and she has as much room for improvement as any in the cast. Victor Espinoza will pilot the win threat.

#5 MESSAGE -- Baffert charge was a nine-length allowance vixen in her most recent run on the surface. A dead-heat winner of the Tranquility Lake S. last time out, the Warrior’s Reward 4-year-old makes just her second appearance since May and rates a chance for sure. Prat will guide the speedy filly.

#6 PROUD EMMA -- Include chestnut will make her local debut from the outside post for Miller. The 4-year-old has a measure of back class to her, and I think that the race goes through her and pilot Mike Smith. Kentucky-bred will track an honest pace to the top of the stretch.
