How to bet the San Francisco Mile

June 13th, 2020

A field of eight will travel a mile on the Golden Gate turf Sunday in the $250,000 San Francisco Mile (G3).

San Francisco Analysis

All of the pace in the cast will come from the outside, with #6 Kiwi’s Dream, #7 Neptune’s Storm, and #8 Restrainedvengence, all likely to show the way from the start. The early tempo is expected to be fairly swift.

San Francisco Contenders

#1 CAMINO DEL PARAISO (6-1) -- In-form son of Suances draws the rail as a top-three player under Martinez. 7-year-old gelding has arguably never been better with three stakes placings in succession, and the bay has run second on four starts over the course, as well.

#2 ARCH PRINCE (15-1) -- Dark bay has been first or second in six of his last seven assignments for Calvario. Kentucky-bred gelding is just 1-for-16 lifetime on the lawn, though, and the class jump makes him hard to back with confidence in a tough field.

#3 MAJESTIC EAGLE (10-1) -- Dangerous contender is one of two from the Drysdale shedrow. Medaglia d’Oro 5-year-old races as a gelding for the initial time, and his best effort will give him a chance inside the final furlong with Rispoli in the controls.

#4 MURAD KHAN (6-1) -- Son of Raven’s Pass exits a pair of graded turf sprints and must be considered a contender on the stretch out. O’Neill pupil has a nice turn of foot, and he should get the pace setup for his late run at a square price. Kyle Frey will be in the controls.

#5 SIMPLY BREATHLESS (12-1) -- Talented mare faces the boys for Drysdale in a fairly ambitious spot. Bated Breath 5-year-old tired in the stretch of the Gamely (G1) in her 2020 debut, but improvement is expected on Sunday. Import will be rallying from well off the pace beneath Gonzalez.

#6 KIWI’S DREAM (7-2) -- Trujillo trainee has smart All-Weather form and moves to the sod as a player in this spot. Sebring 5-year-old has run two of the best races in his career since stretching out to route racing as of late, and he could get brave if he clears the cast early. Juan Hernandez retains the mount.

#7 NEPTUNE’S STORM (3-1) -- Top pick has knocked heads with some talented foes and looks tough on this occasion. Baltas pupil dueled through rapid splits before tiring in the Shoemaker Mile (G1) most recently, but vast improvement is expected second time out in 2020. Grade 2 hero will be in the mix from the break.

#8 RESTRAINEDVENGENCE (5-2) -- Son of Hold Me Back is on a two-race stakes winning streak for Brinkerhoff. Peaking dark bay was a facile stakes winner in his lone prior outing on the course, and he will enjoy clear sailing throughout from the outer post assignment on Sunday. A bullet morning drill last week adds to the appeal.
