Keeneland - Appalachian Stakes, April 17, 2014

April 17th, 2014

Keeneland 8 | 4:42 pm ET Appalachian for 3yo F going 1 mi (T)

The 26th running of the Appalachian Stakes may be one of the most wide open renewals in history. The morning line favorite, LACAROLINA, is 7-2 and there are six other fillies between 7-2 and 8-1 on the morning line. LACAROLINA, making her first start since winning a Group 3 in France last November, is the one to beat for trainer Mark Casse. Of the past 10 winners of the race, 6 have shipped in from Gulfstream Park. This year only ZINZAY made her last start at the Florida track, finishing second to RESISTIVITY, who is also entered here. RESISTIVITY then tried deeper waters in the Grade 1 Ashland 11 days ago and finished tenth. ZINZAY should sit the trip behind the speed and get first run down the stretch. KITTEN'S KABOODLE defeated ZINZAY last October in the Grade 3 Jessamine over the Keeneland turf course and is making her second start off the layoff after finishing a non-threatening seventh in the Florida Oaks last month at Tampa Bay Downs. That looks to have been merely a prep race so do not discount her, especially at her 8-1 morning line. She is a must use in any pick-4, trifecta or superfecta wager. Two others worth a bet making their 2014 debut are RECEPTA, winner of a $100,000 stakes race on the turf at Belmont in October, and DARING DANCER, undefeated in two starts and also making her first start since October. This race is a superfecta player's dream.
