Lightstream in Mother Goose; Single 6 Wagers at Churchill

Unbeaten Lightstream will step up in class and make her route debut in Saturday’s 1 1/8-mile Mother Goose (G1) at Belmont Park. It’s a daunting challenge against accomplished rivals Lewis Bay, Rachel’s Valentina and Off the Tracks, but I like her chances.

A debut winner at Gulfstream in early March, Lightstream made her second start in the April 17 Beaumont (G3) at Keeneland and broke a step slow from the tricky innermost post at the about 7-furlong distance. She left herself plenty to do from off the pace against seasoned foes, waiting until the completion of the far turn to launch her bid, and I loved the turn of foot displayed by the Harlan’s Holiday filly as she rallied boldly to win going away.

Lightstream switched to turf and improved to 3-for-3 in the May 21 Soaring Softly at Belmont, displaying her versatility for trainer Brian Lynch with another strong finish, and she’s registered triple-digit BRIS Late Pace as well as commendable Speed numbers in all three starts. An enticing 5-1 on the morning line, the improving miss drew well in post 7 with Joel Rosario. I’m looking forward to playing Lightstream.

Single 6 on $100 Budget

Churchill Downs closes its spring/summer meet Saturday night with a mandatory payout in the Single 6, which has risen to $716,447. The 20-cent minimum bet will be held on races 4-9.

I’ll take a swing at the Single 6 on a $100 budget and #2 Ready for Chianti in the finale (9^th race) is my strongest opinion. The More Than Ready filly packs a strong late kick and should appreciate the expected class relief after finishing second to a pair of promising stakes types, Try Your Luck and Sky My Sky, in her last two outings.
