Meadowlands Hosts Eight Breeders Crown Finals on Saturday Night
In harness racing "It All Comes Down to the Breeders Crown" and that will certainly be the case on Saturday night when the Meadowlands in New Jersey hosts eight Breeders Crown finals for two- and three-year-olds of both gaits and genders.
While the older trotters and pacers will be on display tonight, the Breeders Crown finals for two- and three-year-old trotters and pacers will highlight a stellar Saturday card at the New Jersey one-mile oval. Depending on the results of Friday's quartet of Crowns - primarily the Open for aged pacers - there is one sophomore trotter in particular who could vault higher in the horse of the year conversation.
Saturday's fourth race is the $600,000 Breeders Crown final for two-year-old trotting fillies and the race is between a pair of Jimmy Takter trainees, Ariana G (Yannick Gingras) and That's All Moni (Tim Tetrick) and Chezatter (David Miller), who upset Ariana G in their respective elim last week. Ariana G settled for the place spot as the 1-5 favorite last week, only her second loss in 10 career outings, but she figures to make amends tomorrow night.
One race later in the $600,000 Breeders Crown final for two-year-old pacing fillies, elim winners Tori Hanover (Scott Zeron) and Roaring To Go (Brett Miller) will vie for favoritism along with Idlyyic Beach (Gingras), the Takter trainee who faded to third as the 4-5 favorite in her elim last weekend. Roaring To Go has won her last three starts and seven of 13 overall for trainer Kevin Lare and owner Frank Chick, including last week's ultra sharp elim score in 1:52.4 and gets the nod over Tori Hanover, who rallied sharply in the lane for trainer Tony Alagna in a considerably slower 1:54.4.

Then one race later in the $600,000 Breeders Crown final for two-year-old colt pacers, handy elim winners Downbytheseaside (David Miller) and Huntsville (Tetrick) will start from posts two and three, respectively, in one of the more anticipated meetings among freshmen in quite some time. Downbytheseaside has won seven of 11 starts and banked $250,000 for trainer Brian Brown, while Huntsville has won five straight and six of nine overall for trainer Ray Schnittker and both sons of Somebeachsomewhere own identical 1:49 triumphs at Lexington.
Then one race later in the $500,000 Breeders Crown final for three-year-old colt trotters, much of the focus will be on Marion Marauder (Zeron) who completed the rare Triple Crown sweep with his wins in the Hambo, Yonkers Trot and Kentucky Futurity. But the Paula Wellwood trainee settled for second in his elim last week and will likely yield the favorite's role to Bar Hopping (Tetrick) who unleashed a 1:52.4 score in his elim last week for Takter and could thwart 'Marion' from attaining horse of the year honors with a tally here.

Then in the $500,000 Breeders Crown final for three-year-old colt pacers, a race that lost considerable luster when Betting Line scratched last week, Western Fame (Mark Macdonald), Check Six (Gingras), Racing Hill (Brett Miller) and Lyons Snyder (Brian Sears) will resolve the issue in the lane albeit in a race where division honors have already been secured by the absent Betting Line.
